Lab Session 6

The document explains how a joystick operates using potentiometers to detect movement and output voltage changes to a microcontroller. It also suggests three applications for joystick technology: a surveillance camera system, an object tracking robot, and a laser pointer controller. Each application utilizes the joystick's ability to control direction and movement effectively.

Lab Session # 6

Ans # 1:

A joystick works by using two potentiometers, one for the X-axis (horizontal) and one for the Y-
axis (vertical). When you move the joystick, it changes the resistance of the potentiometers, which
alters the voltage output. These voltage changes are read by a microcontroller (like an Arduino)
through analog pins, allowing it to determine the direction and intensity of the movement. Some
joysticks also include a push button function when pressed.

Ans # 2:

1. Surveillance Camera System: Use the pan & tilt setup with a camera to track movement or
manually control the camera direction using a joystick.
2. Object Tracking Robot: Mount sensors on the pan & tilt module to follow moving objects
or faces, useful in automation and robotics.
3. Laser Pointer Controller: Attach a laser pointer and use the joystick to aim it precisely for
alignment tasks or interactive demonstrations.
