Artificial Intelligence 2 Page Intro

Artificial Intelligence (AI) simulates human intelligence in machines to perform tasks like visual perception and decision-making. There are two types of AI: Narrow AI, which is common and designed for specific tasks, and General AI, which is theoretical and would surpass human capabilities. AI applications span various fields, including healthcare and finance, but also raise ethical concerns such as algorithmic bias and job displacement.

Introduction to Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the simulation of human intelligence in machines that are programmed to

think and learn. These machines can perform tasks that typically require human intelligence, such

as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and language translation.

There are two types of AI: Narrow AI and General AI. Narrow AI is designed to perform a narrow

task (e.g., facial recognition or internet searches) and is the most common type in use today.

General AI would outperform humans at nearly every cognitive task, but it remains a theoretical

concept.

AI systems work by processing large amounts of data and recognizing patterns to make predictions

or decisions. This is often achieved through machine learning, where computers are trained to learn

from data without being explicitly programmed.

Introduction to Artificial Intelligence

Applications of AI are vast and growing. In healthcare, AI is used for diagnosing diseases,

personalizing treatment plans, and analyzing medical images. In finance, AI helps detect fraudulent

transactions, manage portfolios, and provide customer support through chatbots.

In everyday life, AI powers voice assistants like Siri and Alexa, recommends movies on streaming

platforms, and enables smart home devices. Autonomous vehicles also rely heavily on AI to

interpret sensory data and navigate.

As AI continues to evolve, it presents both opportunities and challenges. Ethical considerations,

such as bias in algorithms and job displacement due to automation, must be addressed to ensure

that AI benefits society as a whole.
