INTRODUCTION

There is good and bad about everything. The same applies to estrogens. When our
estrogen levels are in the right ranges, the hormone synergizes with other hormones
to support many physiological functions.

When estrogen is out of balance, it can cause severe stress within the body, causing a
state of estrogen dominance that leads to physical degeneration. Nowadays the
problem is that we are overexposed to man-made estrogenic chemicals in our
environment.

The xenoestrogens

These estrogenic mimicking substances are called xenoestrogens, from the Ancient
Greek “ξένος” (xénos); meaning foreign, thus a foreign estrogen.

Xenoestrogens might be foreign to the body, but they are recognized as normal
estrogen. The thing is that these xenoestrogens are acting in a very aggressive way on
our physiology:

• Xenoestrogens disturb the feedback loop/signal hormones in the brain

• Xenoestrogens increase SHBG in the body lowering free testosterone

• Xenoestrogens increase aromatase enzyme activity, ipping T into E

• Xenoestrogens lower testosterone and fertility

As you can see, xenoestrogens have a negative impact on physiology and are anti-
androgenic, meaning that these chemicals oppose androgen hormones and inhibit
the production of testosterone which can negatively a ect both men and women.

They also burden the liver’s methylation (detox) pathway, because your liver is the
main organ to detoxify (xeno)estrogens.

Early exposure to xenoestrogens can lead to the underdevelopment of reproductive
organs. This is the real danger of xenoestrogens - especially for unborn children.

New research found that the umbilical cord of pregnant women contains
contaminants such as phthalates.

To the newborn, these xenoestrogens can a ect the anogenital distance or AGD
which is the distance between the genitals and the anus. This distance is larger in
males than in females as it is regulated by DHT or dihydrotestosterone, which can be
disrupted by xenoestrogens. Due to the prenatal exposure to endocrine disruptors,
the AGD can shrink.

A study by Swan et al. determined that the AGD is linked to fertility in males and
penis size. The AGD is thus a mirror of how much androgens and anti-androgens a
prenatal was exposed to.

A shorter AGD in males is correlated with:

- Smaller penis size

- Infertility & lower sperm counts
- Undescended testicles
- Testicular tumor

Women who had high levels of phthalates in their urine during pregnancy gave birth
to sons who were ten times more likely to have shorter than expected AGDs.

A 2018 study by Barrett et al. found that infant girls born to women with polycystic
ovary syndrome (PCOS) had longer AGD, suggesting higher fetal testosterone
exposure, than girls born to women without PCOS.

The disrupting e ects of xenoestrogens are:

• Thyroid dysfunction (low metabolic rate)

• Digestive problems/Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth

• Joint pain and in ammation

• Liver disease & poor detoxi cation

• Thinning of the hair, hair loss

• Estrogen related cancer

• Mental/ emotional imbalance

• Low testosterone

& more

As you can see, when you mess up your hormones you mess up your health, and
these xenoestrogens are everywhere: from personal care products to household
cleaners, to the very water you drink and even receipts from the grocery stores.

The problem is not that you come in contact with these endocrine disruptors from
time to time, the real problem is that they start to accumulate in your tissues without
you even knowing it. A silent killer so to speak.

This is why I wrote this guide, to bring awareness about xenoestrogens.

IDENTIFICATION
This is a list of the most common endocrine disruptors that are found in plastics,
pesticides, herbicides, personal care products, and food preservatives. Understand
that there are way more xenoestrogenic substances out there, too many to name in
this list.

Here are a few of the most common ones:

Atrazine is a known endocrine disruptor found in herbicides that turned male frogs
into female frogs.

BPA stands for bisphenol A, and is present in receipts, plastics, drinking bottles,
toilet paper and canned foods. BPA is an endocrine disruptor, it lowers testosterone
levels while increasing estrogen and SHBG levels, delaying puberty and can cause
sexual dysfunction.

DDT or Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane was rst made as an insecticide but was
banned soon after because of its health concerning e ects. It is now used in third
world countries.

Benzophenones prevents UV light to cause damage, therefore it is mostly added in

sunscreens but also in various personal care products such as perfumes and soaps,
and in plastics to prevent photo damage of the plastic polymers.

Endosulfan another insecticide and neurotoxin can be inhaled, absorbed through

the skin or ingested.

PCBs polychlorinated biphenyls and PBBs polybrominated biphenyls don’t

degrade easily and are found in pesticides that can accumulate in seafood and
animals.

Phthalates have many names hexyl-, diisononyl- and butyl benzyl phthalate, and are
used to make plastics more exible but are also used in many personal care products
as stabilizers. They can be also found in toys, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and
skincare products.

Oxybenzone is a major contributor in skin cancer and is the main ingredient in

sunscreens.

Parabens are a class of preservative chemicals found in cosmetics, make-up, body
care products, shampoos, toothpaste, shaving gels, moisturizers, food preservatives
and in the pharmaceutical products.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate are used as foaming agents for toothpaste, shampoo, soaps,
dish soap, laundry detergents, shave cream and various skin moisturizers and
cleansers.

XENOESTROGENS SWAPS
The ve main areas we get exposed to xenoestrogens are: hygiene products, clothing,
cooking ware, cleaning products, and food. Also, our environment inside the home
(furniture & painting) is a source of xenoestrogens.

In this chapter, you will learn the main xenoestrogen sources and how you can swap
them for simple and natural alternatives and prevent exposure to pollutants and
endocrine-disrupting agents.

1. HYGIENE PRODUCTS + BATHROOM

Hand soaps are most of the time loaded with chemicals and are dehydrating for the
skin. Make your own hand spray with water, ACV, and some essential oil, or go for a
natural soap like Aleppo or soap made from goat milk.

© Primal Thrive LLC 9

fi
Fluorinated toothpaste. Fluoride is not needed at all for tooth health and is a toxic
mineral that has been shown to cause infertility and a decrease in intelligence (IQ).
Swap toothpaste for green clay, activated charcoal, or aluminum-free baking soda, or
make your own paste with coconut oil and neem powder.

Mouthwash is unnecessary. A healthy body doesn’t stink. Support your mouth

bacteria by supporting your gut microbiome, as the two are connected. Otherwise,
swap for oil pulling with coconut oil and chew on some cloves or peppermint for a
fresh breath.

Fluorinated tap water can be ltered via a shower lter. Get a high-quality shower
lter by clicking this link.

Commercial shampoos are full of estrogens that dehydrate the scalp and cause hair
loss in the long term. Shampoos can be easily swapped for apple cider vinegar diluted
in water. If you don’t like the smell of ACV, try aloe vera or make your own poo.
There are many natural methods you can nd on YouTube or on blogs.

If you are looking for a 100% natural hair oil that will nourish your scalp, help with
circulation, and rejuvenate the hair follicle, have a look at my product Man Manes.
Get a 10% discount using code ‘PRIMAL’.

Ca eine from tea or co ee can increase the circulation towards the hair follicle.
Rinsing your hair with tea is a natural alternative.

Body soaps can be swapped for a natural soap like Aleppo which is made from
herbs and olive oil, or soap derived from goat milk. A more natural alternative is to
use half a lemon and rub it over your skin. This will dissolve any impurities and
smells through its acidity.

Toilet paper is often bleached and contains xenoestrogens like bisphenol A (BPA),
which is a known carcinogen. Swap for something natural like a bidet, which is a way
better & cleaner option than regular toilet paper. Also better for the environment.

Tampons are bleached and contain dioxins and furans. These can change the vaginal
pH and hence change the integrity of the inner tissue. Therefore swap for a reusable
cloth, organic tampons, menstrual underwear or menstrual cup.

Sunscreen gives you skin cancer. Ca eine, on the other hand, protects the skin from
the sun and can be diluted in water and sprayed on your skin multiple times a day.

Studies show that ca eine from co ee protects the skin cells against UV-induced
photodamage. However, a healthy diet rich in cholesterol and other antioxidants,
together with gradual exposure to sunlight are the ways to go. Give your body the
time to adapt to the sunlight and get a tan.

Perfume can be swapped for essential oils. Perfume and certain fragrances contain
phthalates that contribute to estrogen dominance and are shown to reduce sperm
count. For women, this can cause conditions like endometriosis.

Makeup is a source of heavy metals. If I recall correctly, a simple lipstick has over 90
chemical constituents. Swap makeup and skin care products for tallow balm. Use the
Man Manes link to shop for grass-fed tallow products.

Birth control pills must be avoided at all costs. BC is related to an increased risk of
several types of cancer such as breast, iron overload, hypothyroidism, and thinning of
the hair and hair loss.

ff
ff
Candles give of estrogens into the air. This is an estrogen airborne attack on your
lungs. Swap for natural beeswax candles.

Air fresheners are very toxic, not needed, and unnecessary. Swap for an essential oil
di user.

2. CLOTHING

Clothing and the fabrics that our skin comes in contact with are the other main
category and source of xenoestrogens. Toxic compounds like polyester, for instance,
were shown to be 100% e ective in reducing male fertility and got the nickname
“male contraceptive”. The men from the study regained their fertility after several
months after the exposure to polyester.

Also in women, xenoestrogens like polyester were tied to infertility and miscarriages.
Polyester is one of the most polluting fabrics on Earth and takes up to 200 years to
decompose. Below are some natural fabrics that are highly recommended to be worn
on a day-to-day basis.

Merino wool is probably of my all-time favorites. The main bene t of merino wool
is the antimicrobial properties of the wool, thus it doesn’t hold on to smells from
sweat. Merino wool dries very fast, regulates temperature, and is breathable. There
exist several types of thickness and are marked with a number. The higher the
number, the warmer the clothing. A lot of merino is mixed with other fabrics such as
polyester and elastine. Avoid those. Get 100% pure merino or merino mixed with
another natural ber such as organic cotton.

ff
fi
ff
fi
Linen is another great fabric that allows the skin to breathe. Besides clothing, linen,
and organic cotton are great fabrics for bed sheets.

Organic cotton as most cotton cannot be trusted due to high exposure to

pesticides.

Leather and fur are natural clothing options. Leather has conductive abilities,
meaning that leather shoe ware can actually ground you to the earth. This is how
Native Americans were grounded 24/7 as they wore leather moccasins.

Bamboo is dubious as it requires lots of chemicals to be processed.

Tight underwear like bras and underpants can restrict normal lymphatic ow,
causing health complications due to a reduction in circulation. For men’s genitalia,
underwear reduces fertility and testosterone, due to the excessive heat (tighter =
warmer). Even boxers aren’t the best option. Wear no underwear if you can - or wear
loose tting.

3. KITCHEN

The kitchen is a major source of endocrine-disrupting agents. Whether you like

cuisining or not, your food has to be prepared, and your equipment to prep food
matters. Most commercial cooking ware will leach toxins into your food. Np of it
happens once in a while. The problem is when you do this for months, or even years,
when it becomes habitual in other words.

Here is your ultimate guide to cookware:

Te on pans and non-stick pans contain per uorinated compounds (PFCs) and
polytetra uoroethylene (PTFE) which can a ect our androgen hormones and
cortisol levels. After using a Te on pan for a while, it will start to excrete toxic fumes
that you may inhale while making your food toxic. Swap those pans for uncoated
(nickel-free) stainless steel and ceramic cooking ware. No aluminum at all*

Plastic containers (even BPA-free ones) contain xenoestrogens. Store your food in
glass containers or something made from natural materials like bamboo or untreated
wood.

Washing detergents, replace those with pure baking soda aka soda bicarbonate, or
with something acidic like vinegar that will rinse o any stickiness.

Plastic cutting boards can be easily swapped for wooden cutting boards.
Personally, I like the olive wood ones.

Silverware/cutlery can leach inorganic iron and other toxic metals while eating.
Swap for bamboo or wooden utensils or chopsticks and avoid all plastic cutlery.

Plastic wrappers & Aluminum foil are unnecessary because they are toxic to you
and the environment. Use paper wrapper instead. Regarding aluminum pans and
pots, replace them with multiple-ply stainless steel, ceramic, or cast iron.

Plastic water boiler will eventually leach plastics into the water. Replace with a
glass one, or boil water in a glass or stainless steel saucepan.

4. HOUSEHOLD

Furniture and carpets when made from synthetic material are loaded with
xenoestrogens which can enter the body by absorption or through the air by inhaling
them. Use natural material instead.

Paint can contain lead and other heavy metals that can spread via the air. Be aware!

Laundry products and softeners can be swapped for natural detergents like borax.

Cleaning products can be swapped for baking soda, vinegar, and essential oils.

5. FOOD SUPPLY

Pesticides on fruits and vegetables are probably the number one source of atrazine
(xenoestrogens) in the diet, which is linked to infertility and testosterone decline.
Same for conventional meat and dairy, which are loaded with estrogens because these
poor animals are fed a very toxic diet. Go for locally grown, non-sprayed vegetables
and eat plenty of organic meat and dairy.

We already covered plastic bottled and tap water. The plastic bottles leach out plastic
residues that accumulate in the body and especially in the liver and kidneys. Use a
ltration system that lters out all the plastics, hormones, uoride, chlorine,... out or
buy glass bottled spring water.

Canned foods are loaded with BPA and other xenoestrogens and heavy metals like
aluminum. Canned food is dead food, so don’t eat it. Swap for fermented foods and
pickles that are preserved in a glass container.

Processed food contains many preservatives and arti cial food additives. These can
pass the blood-brain barrier and cause nerve cell death and are known as excitotoxins.

Grain products, processed grains, and all legumes contain estrogenic substances
and even pesticides as well. Most commercial bread and our contain bromine, a
halogen that displaces iodine. Swap for sourdough bread and limit overall grain
consumption.

Receipts are loaded with BPA and can be absorbed through the skin, don’t touch
them. Estrogens that are absorbed by the skin are ten times more harmful as they
enter the bloodstream directly and don’t pass by the liver.

fi
fi
fi
fl
fl
Alcohol & Beer are highly estrogenic, especially all beers, wines, and dark liquors.
Swap for healthier alternatives like white tequila or vodka with orange juice.

Soy products are a source of phytoestrogens, plant estrogens in other words that are
known to suppress metabolism. Conventional cattle are fed soy so it gains weight.

Vegetable oils such as sun ower oil, axseed oil, canola oil, all seed oils, all nut oils,
soy oils, nut butter, nut milk, oat milk, and nut bars,... are extremely estrogenic and
bad for your hormonal and reproductive health.

Plastic bags are polluting the environment. Limit plastics and bring your own
reusable bags.

Tap water and plastic bottled water - I see too many people (even those who are
health conscious) still consuming one or both. In the picture below shows one of my
experiments. I distilled a gallon (4L)
of plastic bottled water. This was the
end result, a sticky substance
(plastic?) at the bottom of the
distiller. As you can see, plastic
bottled water is not always safe. In
later experiments, I distilled other
plastic bottles with di erent results
(less residue). Get either a distiller or
quality water lter from pristine
hydro.

DETOX PROTOCOL

Now we have arrived at the protocol. Applying this protocol will help your biology
to safely eliminate endocrine-disrupting agents such as xenoestrogens and heavy
metals. Follow the steps to the bone if you want to be your healthiest self.

The detox protocol:

#1 Prevention

#2 Re-mineralization

#3 Support Detoxification Pathways

#4 Chelation & binders

#5 Elimination

#6 Prevent Reabsorption

© Primal Thrive LLC 18

Step 1. Prevention

Start with binning everything that is toxic in your household, kitchen, wardrobe,
personal care products, toiletry, etc. Basically, apply EVERYTHING that was listed
above to prevent xenoestrogens and heavy metals from coming near to you.

Okay, don’t freak out.

This guide might seem very strict, and yes you should be strict and disciplined with
your health. Buy the best organic and non-toxic things as a replacement for cheap
and toxic ones.

But you shouldn’t become orthorexic and fearful. Trust in your body as it is made to
handle toxicity to some degree. Avoiding all toxins is NOT possible - or you should
be living in some pristine area on earth far away from civilization (and still you will
be exposed to some sort of toxin).

Here are a few tools to prevent toxicity:

- Baking Soda Removes Pesticide Residues

- Sweating Detoxes Phthalates & Heavy metals

- Activated Charcoal Removes BPA

- Degradation of bisphenol A by Bacillus Pumilus isolated from Kimchi

- Vitamin A is Key in the Detoxi cation of BPA

- Ginger Reduces the Toxicity of Parabens

The world is toxic, just accept it, but know that the food you eat like probiotics, beef
liver, egg yolks, ginger, turmeric, etc. can help protect you against this toxicity.
Eventually, there is nothing to worry about if you know what to do.

© Primal Thrive LLC 19

fi
Step 2. Re-mineralization & correcting de ciencies

Big mistake that people make before doing a heavy metal cleanse or any cleanse in
general is to not supply enough minerals.

Minerals activate enzymes that play a role in detoxi cation. Minerals also bind to
certain heavy metals. So if your system is overloaded with toxins and metals, guess
what happens? Mineral de ciency.

So in order to cleanse properly - you must take time to introduce enough minerals
before doing any protocol or cleanse.

The minerals you will need to replenish the most before this protocol are:

- Magnesium: activates most enzymes in the body and binds to heavy metals
- Copper: activates energy production and regulates unbound iron
- Zinc: activates antioxidant/detoxi cation enzymes
- Selenium: activates glutathione and binds to heavy metals like mercury
- Sulfur: increases glutathione and cleanses heavy metals
- Silica: binds to heavy metals

Besides minerals, correcting vitamin de ciencies is also part of the protocol:

- Vitamin A: activates copper and cleanses xenoestrogens (also anti-aromatase)

- Vitamin E: antioxidant vitamin, protects against heavy metals
- Vitamin K: regulates metabolism and helps with chelation
- B Vitamins: metabolism, xeno detoxi cation, methylation,…
- Vitamin C: glutathione, antioxidant, protects against metals and xenoestrogens

fi
fi
fi
fi
fi
fi
So here is a plan for how you can get in all of these nutrients in the next weeks:

1. Daily magnesium supplementation: magnesium glycinate/taurate 2-4x 500mg

daily or magnesium bicarbonate (1L/day).

2. Grass-fed beef liver 2-3x 150-200 grams per week for vitamin A, copper, zinc,
and B vitamins.

3. Organ meat, frequently, for B vitamins, zinc, selenium, copper, and protein

4. Bee pollen, 10 grams per day for copper, avonoids, minerals, and B vitamins

5. Oysters, six to twelve 1-2x per week for zinc, selenium, copper, and iodine

6. Meat, daily, can be all kinds of meat, but some of it must be raw

7. Steak tartare or raw meat 2-3x per week for B vitamins and zinc

8. Red onions, daily, for sulfur

9. Greens, like green juice, salads, rocket, watercress, etc. daily for sulfur and silica

10. Red bell pepper, 1-2 big ones daily, for vitamin C

11. Olive oil from EVOO, daily 2 tbsp for vitamin E

12. Raw fat and raw cheeses, daily on an empty stomach, for probiotics and K2

13. Fermented vegetables, a small amount almost daily for probiotics, vitamin C,
and K2

14. Sea salt, daily 5-10 grams, for minerals

15. Fresh organic and seasonal fruit for vitamin C

Eating like this will rapidly help you remineralize and correct underlying nutrient
deficiencies. You will feel after a while that energy metabolism will go up and that
skin and nails look healthier. Those are signs that the nutrients are getting utilized.

fl
Step 3. Support Detoxification Pathways

Perhaps one of the most important parts of this course, is how detoxi cation works
and how you can assist the process of detoxi cation.

The liver is the main organ that facilitates detoxi cation. The toxins that are bound
to fats are delivered to the rst phase of detoxi cation via the CYP450 enzymes. Next
is phase 2 detoxi cation, where the toxins are made water soluble so that they can be
excreted.

In this phase, several conjugation pathways are used such as methylation, glutathione
conjugation, and glucuronidation. The nutrients that are required for this process
are vitamin C, B vitamins, protein (glycine, taurine, glutamine, cysteine, and
methionine), minerals, and choline.

The health of the liver is foundational for hormonal balance. The liver doesn’t only
clean out toxins, it also metabolizes hormones. Besides that, the liver is also
responsible for the production of SHBG or sex hormone-binding globulin, a carrier
protein that binds to androgen hormones. Elevated SHBG levels can lower free
testosterone and DHT.

Anything that damages the liver can cause a rise in SHBG levels. Leaky gut,
endotoxemia, alcohol, in ammatory diet, and xenoestrogens as contributors to liver
damage.

One way to support your liver is by supplying su cient methyl groups for the
methylation processes. But rst, proper bile ow must be established.

ffi
fi
Liver, Gallbladder, & Bile

Bile is made by the liver, and transported through the bile channels/ducts into the
gallbladder where the bile is stored and excreted to digest fats. Bile plays an
important role in the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins and essential fatty acids.

Bile plays also an important role in excreting metabolized hormones, toxins, and
xenoestrogens.

If your bile ow is impaired, it can cause serious problems and becomes a roadblock
to succeed with this protocol. Promote bile production by incorporating the
following foods:

- Avocado
- Egg yolks (choline)
- Sea salt
- Dark leafy greens like dandelion
- Beetroots and spinach for betaine
- Bitter foods/herbs
- Olives and olive oil
- Lemon/limes
- Turmeric and ginger
- TUDCA supplement (don’t take on an empty stomach, I warned you).

Promoting bile ow is easy. Just eat saturated or monounsaturated fat with every
meal, this will trigger bile secretion.

Note that most people have healthy bile ow. Those at risk are mostly women on
birth control.

© Primal Thrive LLC 23

fl
fl
fl
Warning: if you know you have gallstones or have problems with digesting fats, then
prioritize xing those to establish proper bile ow.

Now that the bile is owing smoothly, we can start supporting the liver’s
detoxi cation pathways.

Methylation Pathway

Methylation is a biological process that involves the removal of one methyl group
(CH3) from one substance and placing it on another substance. This process takes
place predominantly within the liver as part of detoxi cation.

It has to be that the estrogen molecule misses one of the methyl groups, making it an
unstable molecule. When methylated, it can be safely excreted out of the body.

Folate is a methyl donor and supports the methylation processes. Folate from the
Latin ‘folium’ meaning leaf, can be found in green vegetables but also fruits such as
oranges and avocados; and in animal-based food sources like liver, yolks, and seafood.

Another important methylator is vitamin B12, which can be found only in animal
food such as shell sh, raw sh, liver, meat, poultry, dairy, and eggs.

Choline is found as phosphatidylcholine and

the highest food sources are in egg yolks and
liver. Choline does more than donating methyl
groups alone, as it is a key nutrient for brain and
nerve function and acts as a nootropic. Besides
eggs and liver, choline can be found in
mushrooms, meat, sh, and shell sh.

Betaine found in beets is an excellent source of

methyl groups. Both choline and betaine can be
taken in as a supplement (but I advise to get it from actual food).

Glutathione Conjugation Pathway

Glutathione is an antioxidant enzyme found in the liver and responsible for

detoxi cation and thyroid hormone conversion. Glutathione is a selenium-
dependent antioxidant enzyme produced in the cytosol of the cell or in other words
within the cell from three amino acids: glycine, cysteine, and glutamine.

The body is able to make and recycle glutathione, which means that there is no need
to take it as a supplement.

Food/herb sources that aid in glutathione buildup are beef kidney (rich in selenium),
pork meat, shell sh like oysters, reishi mushroom extract, and milk thistle extract.
Vitamin C from fruits and berries together with NADPH from niacinamide, are
able to restore/recycle glutathione. Sulfur-rich foods like onions and garlic are able to
boost glutathione.

Focus on raw seafood, whole food vitamin C, greens, onions, and protein from
animal sources to make glutathione.

Another great way to naturally enhance glutathione production is via NAC or N-

acetyl Cysteine, a popular supplement in the health community.

NAC is naturally present in onions and garlic.

Glucuronidation Pathway

Calcium D Glucarate is a natural ber present in

certain fruits, but can be supplemented as an aid
for the removal of xenoestrogens.

Taken as a supplement, Calcium D Glucarate

supports glucuronidation, which is an important
system/ detox pathway of your liver that your body
relies on for the deactivation and elimination of

certain toxins and hormones.

The best food sources of this acid

are berries, citrus fruits
(grapefruit), apples, and
cruciferous vegetables. Besides the
safe elimination of xenoestrogens,
these foods can also balance out
estrogen dominance.

Exercise & Sweating

Besides the liver, we have another major eliminatory organ, the skin. Sweating has
been shown to release a number of toxins such as phthalates, BPA’s, and heavy
metals.

Through excessive sweating minerals like sodium, zinc, and magnesium are lost as
well. If you sweat a lot make sure to get in adequate salt and zinc from the diet, and
magnesium from a quality supplement.

Honey

The main role of honey is to enhance fertility and treat infertility problems by
protecting the reproductive organs from xenoestrogen-induced damage, atrophy,
and various bacterial infections. Honey can protect sperm, increase both quality and
quality of semen, improve erections, and restore LH and FSH levels.

For women, it can promote fertility, and improve post-menopausal problems and
estrogen levels. Honey helps elevate the rate of detoxi cation, and is considered to be
an antioxidant as well. Fructose is the preferred fuel of the liver, aiding in all of these
metabolic processes.

© Primal Thrive LLC 26

fi
Step 4. Chelation

“Chelation,” from “chelos” the Greek word for claw, involves the incorporation of a
mineral ion or cation into a complex ring structure by an organic molecule, the
chelating agent. Basically, one molecular structure captures another one which we
call chelation.

After having applied the previous steps, your body is fully supported to cleanse out
endocrine disruptors. But to go even further, and play it more safely, we can use
some tools to chelate heavy metals more e ectively.

Since the body is supported, and nourished (remineralized and de ciencies

corrected), we can transition to the next level (a short juice fast).

But rst:

Supplements to include to help chelation:

- Shilajit (fulvic acid), magnesium, chlorella 4g/d for chlorophyll, spirulina,

activated charcoal (help with heavy metals as well).

- Other supplements that are useful are ALA (*Alpha Lipoic Acid can bind to
heavy metals), NAC, taurine, and Selenium from Selenoexcell.

Foods to include to help chelation:

- Garlic (allicin), apple pectin (green apples bind to aluminum), cilantro, lots of
greens, fermented foods, raw meat (again), broccoli,…

*During this protocol, brown rice must be avoided as it can contain cadmium.*

© Primal Thrive LLC 27

fi
ff
fi
Fasting can accelerate the rate of detoxi cation and cleansing. This protocol advises
doing at least a 3-day juice fast.

Juices you can consume are very simple:

1) All kinds of green juices made with the following organic ingredients: celery,
cucumber, green apples, greens, dark greens, oranges, cilantro, parsley, and wild
greens. Pouring some EVOO on the juice will trigger bile ow (what you want).

With this green juice, you can supplement NAC, chlorella, spirulina, or even
chlorophyll for extra chelation.

2) Citrus juice such as lemonade (water mixed with freshly squeezed lemon/lime
juice and mixed with some honey), fresh orange juice, fresh grapefruit juice, and
tangerine juice.

3) Root juice made with beetroot, carrots, apples, and celery.

A juice fast can be done 1x per month during this protocol, which lasts 2-3
months, so 6-9 days in total of juice fasting.

Step 5. Prevent Reabsorption

When estrogens are detoxi ed through the liver and dumped in the intestines, you
want to prevent them of being reabsorbed. This is why we need a binding agent.

Raw Carrots

The bers in carrots are shown to bind excess estrogens in the gut preventing them
from reabsorption into the bloodstream making sure those estrogens hit the toilet.

A better and more digestible option would be to use fermented carrots. This is easy
to make yourself: you simply need a jar and some vinegar. Carrots should be eaten
on a daily basis and on an empty stomach.

Activated charcoal is my personal favorite. It is e ective at binding to all kinds of

toxins, assuring safe elimination. Activated charcoal is proven to bind to BPA’s and
other xenoestrogenic substances. Activated charcoal can also bind to endotoxins and
dead bacteria, reducing bloating while improving digestion.

How much charcoal? 1-5 grams for general detoxi cation, and 5-10 grams in acute
scenarios like food poisoning. You can take 1-3g of charcoal right after a meal to help
bind left-over toxins and endotoxin. Or on an empty stomach rst thing in the
morning.

Rancid Fats
A study done on male rugby players showed that PUFA consumption decreased total
testosterone levels by 90ng/dL after one hour, and when combined with a carb almost it
dropped down to almost 300ng/dL!

The study also tested erectile function and resulted in almost all of the men having
acute erectile dysfunction (ED) post PUFA consumption. The main reason why
PUFA’s cause erectile dysfunction and a drop in T levels, is because they are highly
unstable fats turning rancid (oxidative stress) when entering the bloodstream.

This then enables proper vascular function, hence the acute ED. All PUFAs should
be eliminated and replaced by saturated fat.

PUFA’s act estrogenic and fuel aromatase activity and prostaglandin production. A
simple solution to counteract the damaging e ects of PUFA’s is to take vitamin E.

Vitamin E is rapidly depleted due to pufa consumption and iron overload. Too
much of this rancid fat can lower vitamin E stores.

I consider rancid fats (unstable fats) from arti cial/man-made origin as a valid
endocrine disruptor.

HEAVY METALS
Metals can either destroy our health, or they can defend us against various toxic
substances. The metals/minerals that are on our side (the good side) are copper, zinc,
selenium, iodine and magnesium.

The following metals are toxic:

- Iron in excess (Fe)

- copper in excess (Cu)
- aluminum (Al)
- mercury (Hg)
- cadmium (Cd)
- lead (Pb)
- nickel (Ni)
- arsenic (As)
- barium (Ba)
- beryllium (Be)

Copper is the main regulator of iron. Get your copper from small portions of liver,
oysters, and potato juice. Keep in mind to avoid inorganic copper from copper
drinking cups, copper cooking ware, and isolated copper supplements.

© Primal Thrive LLC 33

Too much iron stored in the tissues can lead to a
condition called ‘hemochromatosis’ or iron
overload. Signs of iron overload:

- skin pigmentation
- enlarged spleen or liver
- joint pain
- premature aging and grey hairs
- high ratio of iron to transferrin
For men above 30, I recommend doing wet cupping once or a couple a times a year.
Wet cupping is also called Hijima - which is similar to normal cupping, but they
poke tiny holes in the skin to drain stagnant blood. Since iron accumulates as we age,
Hijima forms a perfect preventative practice.

Selenium and zinc are shown the counteract the toxicity induced by heavy metals
such as mercury, lead, cadmium, and aluminum. The best sources of selenium and
zinc are pork, kidney, and Selenoexcell for selenium; red meat, oysters, and black ants
for zinc.

Silicon-enriched water was shown: “…that drinking up to 1 L of a silicon-rich

mineral water each day for 12 weeks facilitated the removal of aluminum via the
urine in both patient and control groups without any concomitant e ect upon the
urinary excretion of the essential metals, iron, and copper.” Silicon-rich water can be
made with PristineHydro, or via supplemental liquid silica.

Fulvic and humic acids bound to minerals, like in shilajit, are e ective in binding
and eliminating all kinds of heavy metals. You can buy fulvic and humic acids as in
shilajit.

Magnesium activates over 3000 enzymatic processes in the body, making it a key
mineral for metabolism. Due to soil depletion, it is almost impossible to get enough
dietary magnesium.

Magnesium cleans out heavy metals: "Magnesium is protective against aluminum,

mercury, lead, cadmium, arsenic beryllium, and nickel, and is shown to reduce
blood, bone, and organ levels of these metals. (Bulat et al, 2012)."

Get a quality magnesium supplement such as in magnesium glycinate, taurate, or

malate. Magnesium food sources are oysters, shell sh, tuna, raw milk, and cacao.

HALOGENS
The halogens are a group of elements that consist of uorine, chlorine, bromine,
iodine, and astatine. These chemicals can a ect major glands such as the pineal
gland, thyroid gland, the ovaries, and the testes.

Fluoride

The main glands that become a ected by uoride are the pineal and thyroid gland –
the two most vascularized glands in your body. When these two glands su er from
the destructive e ects of uoride, all hormones will be negatively a ected. Simple
things you can do is to avoid all toothpaste, mouthwash and tap water.

There are however some hidden sources of uoride in the diet. Some plants are more
prone to absorb and hold on to uoride such as the tea plant. The tea plant
(Camellia sinensis) has a root system with a higher a nity to uoride than other
plants. This makes tea a source of uoride, unlike co ee which hasn’t uoride stored
in its seeds.

1L tea can have twice as much uoride as regular tap water. Besides that, teas are
quite estrogenic in nature as well.

Animals from non-organic farms accumulate uorine in their bones which makes
bone broth another hidden source of uoride as this halogen can be stored in the
bones. Get your bones from healthy animals or from a farmer that you trust.

Tamarind

Eat daily tamarind:

“Tamarind intake led to a signi cant increase (P<0.001) in the excretion of uoride
in 24 h urine (4.8±0.22 mg/day) as compared to excretion on control diet (3.5±0.22
mg/day)

Boron

Boron is a micronutrient trace mineral that is missing in our diet because of modern
agriculture. It plays an important role in the metabolism, growth, and development
of bone and regulates vitamin D and therefore also calcium.

Boron will displace uoride from the glands, lower calci cation of the soft tissue,
reduce joint pain, and can even increase androgen hormones. Take 3-9mg of boron
per day as boron glycinate.

Iodine for Protection

Three of the halogens are toxic and will displace iodine from its receptor site. This
means that iodine cannot do its job. Begin with prevention of further uoride,
chloride, and bromide exposure rst. Then supplement boron for a couple of weeks
and add in iodine from fresh seafood.

Regulate Estrogen Dominance

Estrogen dominance is a condition wherein the body overproduces its own
estrogens, or it has problems with e ective elimination. Estrogen is not THE female
hormone as men rely on estrogen as well. The reproductive organs, the
cardiovascular system, and the brain rely on estrogens.

This makes estrogen a good hormone, and a de ciency of it is as worse as an excess.

Both men and women need estrogen in the right ratios. Too much estrogen buildup
can occur due to: poor gut health and endotoxin migration (See AGH for xing
your gut issues), low testosterone and DHT, excessive fat, and weight (fat tissue is
extremely estrogenic).

Symptoms of estrogen dominance in men are:

• Weight gain

• Bloating & Indigestion

• Insomnia

• Hot ashes

• Brain fog/lethargy

• Depression & Anxiety

• Low libido

• ED or Erectile Dysfunction

Symptoms of estrogen dominance in women are:

• Heavy, painful & irregular periods

• Menstrual cramps

• Worsening of PMS

• Thinning of hair

• Hair loss

• Hot ashes

• Migraines

• Mood and irritability

• Breast pain and cancer

Following are a few key steps you can undertake to balance innate estrogens that
your body is overproducing. Skip this if estrogen dominance isn’t troublesome to
you.

1. Melt the fat away

Fat tissue is an organ that can produce hormones. It tends to especially synthesize
and store estrogens. The more fat you carry around, the more active the aromatase
enzyme is. Aromatase converts testosterone into estrogen and is expressed more in
fat tissue. By taking ownership of your physical health and appearance (reducing fat
percentage), you will be able to balance your androgen hormones with your estrogen
levels and establish a healthy testosterone-to-estrogen ratio.

Healthy estrogen levels for men are around 20pg/ml. Healthy testosterone levels for
men are around 700-1200ng/dL.

fl
2. Increase androgen hormones (for men T, for women Progesterone)

High levels of testosterone have been shown to counteract stress hormones and high
estrogen levels. Here are some steps to elevate your levels:

• Decrease xenoestrogen exposure and take time to detox them

• Increase your metabolic rate if slow

• Eat all macronutrients with an emphasis on animal protein & fat

• Eat a diet rich in micronutrients

• Build a sleep sanctuary and optimize your sleep quality.

• Lift heavy weights in the sun (for women moderate weights).

• Prioritize vitamin A & cholesterol (good for building progesterone)

• Learn more about testosterone in ATO

3. Keep aromatase in check

The aromatase enzyme activity is a natural process to keep homeostasis in the male
and female body. However, the enzyme aromatase can ip high amounts of
testosterone into estrogen under periods of stress. This conversion can happen also
under intoxication of alcohol and other various factors.

Below are some powerful & natural aromatase inhibitors:

• Apigenin is a avonoid found in celery, parsley, cilantro, chamomile, and

mushrooms, and is a known aromatase inhibitor.

• Oleuropein, a polyphenol present in olives, olive oil and olive leaf is a potent
aromatase inhibitor and promotes healthy testosterone levels.

• Orange juice and in general any citrus fruit have anti-aromatase e ects
because of their avonoid naringenin. Citrus fruits also contain calcium D
glucarate which promotes the glucuronidation pathway in the liver.
Easy to implement foods and herbs to keep a hormonal balance.

• Salicylic acid is the active ingredient in aspirin and is found in the bark of the
white willow tree. Take a 500 mg aspirin before bed.

• Nicotine from tobacco is a strong estrogen antagonist and DHT agonist.

(Not recommended for women).

• Ca eine from co ee has aromatase-inhibiting properties and has positive

outcomes on liver health. (Not recommended for women).

• Vitamin E as a supplement is a powerful aromatase inhibitor and antioxidant

that protects against the damaging e ects of iron and rancid fats. Get vitamin
E from EVOO (olive oil) or red palm oil.

• Vitamins A, D & K are all aromatase inhibitors.

4. Keep your stress low
Stress hormones like cortisol give rise to estrogen levels while decreasing the
protective hormones and the metabolic rate. A stressed-out person has no energy
and zest for life. Find out what your main stressors are and address them.

Stress will deplete nutrient stores such as:

• Magnesium (Supplement)

• Copper (Liver, shell sh & bee pollen)

• B vitamins (Raw Meat, sh & organs)

• Vitamin A (Liver, organs, egg yolks & milk)

• Vitamin C (Fruits + bell pepper + fermented cabbage 4x the vit C)

• Salt for sodium

• Enzymes (Raw foods)

To mitigate the stress on your biology you can supply with a good magnesium
supplement such as magnesium glycinate, add copious amounts of salt to your water
and food together with a pinch of creatine or taurine.
