Changes To Profile Parameters Has No Effect

This SAP Note addresses issues with changes to table buffer parameters rsdb/tbi_dir_entries and rsdb/tbi_buffer_area_MB, which remain ineffective due to a program error in the SAP kernel. To resolve this, users must implement a specified kernel patch and ensure that the parameters are set in instance profiles, not in the default profile. The document also references related SAP Notes for further guidance.

Symptom

You want to make changes to the default settings of the table buffer. To do so, you set or change the values
of the two table buffer parameters rsdb/tbi_dir_entries and rsdb/tbi_buffer_area_MB. In the following
cases, these changes remain ineffective, that is, as described in SAP Note 2103827, the old parameters
(zcsa/db_max_buftab, zcsa/table_buffer_area, rtbb/max_tables, rtbb/buffer_length) are still evaluated and the
values of the new parameters are calculated from the values of the old parameters in accordance with the
formulas specified in SAP Note 2103827:

1. You set or change just one of the parameters rsdb/tbi_dir_entries and rsdb/tbi_buffer_area_MB to a
value other than the default value (see SAP Note 2103827).
2. You set the two parameters in the default profile only.
3. You set the two parameters to the same value in the instance profile and in the default profile.

Other Terms

Table buffer rsdb/tbi_dir_entries rsdb/tbi_buffer_area_MB profile parameters

Reason and Prerequisites

There is a program error in the SAP kernel.

Solution

The error is corrected with the kernel patch specified in this SAP Note.

If this kernel patch is not implemented in your system, please note the following if you want to change the
table buffer parameter settings:

1. Set both profile parameters to a value other than the default value specified in SAP Note 2103827.
2. Set the two parameters only in the instance profiles and not in the default profile.
