Week 4 Journal

The evaluation focuses on an impromptu speech about whether kids should watch TV, highlighting both positive and negative aspects. The speaker felt comfortable discussing the topic due to personal experience but noted a lack of preparation and nervousness. Improvements are needed in the introduction, body, and conclusion, while verbal and nonverbal delivery were deemed decent but requiring further development.

Due to covid I have not done my brown bag speech so this evaluation will be over the

impromptu speech.
I guess one of the positive things about the impromptu speech was the easy of which I spoke on
the topic. It’s hard to talk about something you know nothing about or disagree with. Since I
have four other siblings talking on whether kids should watch tv or not was easy for me to speck
on. I guess the one thing negative I would say was that I was not prepared for the speech and I
was a little nervous. Due to the speech being impromptu not much to improve there but with time
preparing and presenting speeches will get easier.
For the intro of my speech, I immediately jumped in to the topic sentence stating I fully agreed
with it. The intro was ok but would have to do research for a better intro. The body was subpar as
I was just stating things on the subject as they came to mind hoping to stretch the time out. There
conclusion was very abrupt because it was like a 45 second speech, so a better conclusion could
have been attempted or prepared.
I don’t recall using fillers in the empty space. That was one of the things I was trying to avoid
when I jumped straight into the topic at the beginning of the speech. I yes not all silence needs to
be filled dramatic pauses are usually quite good at what they do by there being nothing in the
time slot.
Well, for the impromptu I had to stand in front of the class, so I basically took a wide stance as if
to hold my ground and went from there. Also, I was still wearing my mask so hard for people to
read my expressions. I generally have a good pitch and volume when I speak so I felt those were
on par. So I feel that both my verbal and nonverbal delivery were decent but could use some
work.
