A. Coordinate
Coordinates make it possible for us to communicate about the position of places and
objects.
Plotting points on the plane and have plotted points from tables of values of both linear
and non linear functions.
The number plane (Cartesian plane) is divided into four quadrants by two perpendicular
axes called the x-axis (horizontal line) and the y-axis (vertical line).
These axes intersect at a point called the origin.
The position of any point in the plane can be represented by an ordered pair of numbers
(x, y). These ordered pairs are called the coordinates of the point.
Example :
The coordinates of three verticeles of rectangle are (3,1). (4,1) and (3,5). What are the
coordinates of the fourth vertex?
Step 1:
A rectangle has four sides and four
vertices. It has two pairs of opposite
equal parallel sides and four right
angles.
Step 2: Step 3:
The other two sides must make right The fourth vertex is where the sides of
angles with the first sides. For this the rectangle meet.
question, each line can be drawn in only
one direction. Draw thye other two sides.
B. Translation
Translation make it possible to describe the direction something moves in and how
far it moves. In this section you will learn to describe how a shape moves on a grid.
Example:
Describe the translation of the shaded shape to unshaded shape.
Step 1:
Choose one vertex of the original shape.
Step 2:
Choose one vertex of the original shape.
Step 3:
Count how many squares horizontally (left or right) the
vertex moves to its position on the translated shape.
Step 4:
1 Check using another vertex.
Answer :
The shape has been translated 2 squares to the right
and 1 square up.
