Linear Programming Problem

The document discusses Linear Programming Problems (LPP), a technique for optimizing a linear function under constraints, relevant in business and industrial engineering. It outlines the requirements for LPP, including a defined objective function and limited resources, and provides an example involving the production of two products to maximize profit. The author expresses gratitude to teachers, parents, and friends for their support in completing the project.

1
Liner programming problem is a
technique for determining a linear
function is maximized or minimized
when subjected when subjected to
various constraints. This technique
has been useful for guiding
quantitative decisions in business
planning, in industrial engineering.

2
REQUIREMENTS OF LPP

In general, Linear programming can be used for

optimization problems if the following
conditions are satisfied
1. There must be a well - defined objective
function (Profit Cost) which is to be either
maximized or minimized.
2. There must be restrictions on the amount or
extent of attainment of the objective.
3. There must be alternative course of action.
4. There resources must be in limited supply.

3
Example:
1) A company manufactures and sells 2 types of products A and B the
cost of production of each unit of 'A' and "B" is $200 and $150
respectively. Each unit of A yields a profit of $20 each unit of B yields
a profit of $15 on selling company estimates the monthly demand of
'A‘ and 'B' to be at a maximum of 500 units in all. The production
budget for the mouth is set at $50,000. How many units should the
company manufacture in order to earn maximum profit from its
monthly sales of 'A' and 'B"?
Solution: Let x unit of A and y unit of B product be manufacture by the
company. Total Profit = 20x + 15y = z (say)
(Here z is an objective function)
Subjective to the condition x + y ≤ 500
Total Costing = 200x + 150y
Production Budget = 50,000
Thus Z = 20x + 15y
Sub to, x + y ≤ 1000
Where x, y ≥ 0.
