Physics - F 1 Data Presentation-Bar Graphs
INTRODUCTION
A bar graph is another way of presenting data. You will learn more below about bar graphs
and how to draw them.
Bar graphs
- A bar graph is a visual display of data on a graph. Bar graphs have vertical bars of different
heights on a pair of axes.
- Bar graphs are used when the data is in groups or categories e.g. days of the week, types of
transport, type of fruits and rainfall patterns.
- We can use the information presented in the table to draw a bar graph
Below is a table that shows favourite colours of learners.
ACTIVITY
Using the information given below draw a bar graph
The table showing the number of children and their favourite colours

To draw a bar graph first you draw horizontal lines along which you write the number of
learners then you draw the vertical axis along which you write the colours. You need to
choose a scale that accommodates all the values.
SUMMARY
The heights of the bars shows the values represented in the table
- From the graph we can see that yellow is the most popular colour and green is the least
popular. I hope you have also managed to draw your graph as shown above. In the next item
you will draw a straight line graph.
