Slide 1: Title Slide

Script:

“Good [morning], everyone. My name is Neysha M. Díaz-Marrero, and today I’ll be discussing a
proposal to improve MyFitnessPal, focusing on overcoming the current challenges we face and
recovering lost users. Over the next few minutes, I’ll take you through the key issues our app has
encountered, how we compare to our competitors, and the strategic changes we can make to
reclaim our position as the market leader. Let’s get started.”

Slide 2: MyFitnessPal Overview

Script:

“MyFitnessPal has created a very popular app to help users log their food intake, track calories,
macronutrients, and exercise. The app has built a vast database of food, not only based on user
submissions but also through our own efforts to create a more curated and verified food database
for our users. We’ve also expanded our reach by adapting the app to support both iOS and
Android, ensuring that customers can seamlessly track their nutrition and fitness on the devices
they already use.”

Slide 3: Pain Points and Challenges

Script:

“However, recent changes have caused some pain points for our users. One of the main issues is
inconsistent and inaccurate data for some foods. This affects our users’ ability to properly track
what they’re eating—something crucial to the service we offer. Additionally, the implementation
of ads in the free version has detracted from the user experience, especially since some ads are
not relevant to our users. The biggest backlash came from the removal of the barcode scanner, a
feature that was core to the app’s functionality before. This has caused frustration among our free
users and led to a decrease in engagement.”

Slide 4: User Backlash

Script:

“Our users have voiced their discontent on various forums, and this discontent has even made its
way into blog posts and articles, where some have openly criticized the changes we’ve made to
the free plan. The negative feedback has been a clear sign that the changes, particularly the
removal of the barcode scanner, have not been well-received by the community.”

Slide 5: Competitor Analysis

Script:

“In the wake of these changes, competitors have started to gain ground by offering similar
services to MyFitnessPal. Some notable competitors are Lose It! and Cronometer. Cronometer
provides the barcode scanner in their free plan, which has proven popular among users. On the
other hand, Lose It! offers a modern design and a friendlier user interface. It also boasts a better
database by using only verified data, which is a key differentiator in terms of accuracy and
reliability.”

Slide 6: Opportunities for Improvement

Script:

“Given the changes we’ve made to the app, along with the rise of competitors taking market
share, the question now is: what can we do to improve MyFitnessPal, our service plans, and our
overall approach to retake that lost market share? We need to respond strategically to not only
address the current pain points but also adapt to the evolving needs of our users.”

Slide 7: Proposed Changes

Script:
“To address the challenges and competitors, here are the changes we propose. First, the app’s
design is starting to feel outdated compared to newer iOS apps, so we recommend launching a
redesign to modernize the user interface. We’ve been a market leader, and we can afford to bring
back the barcode scanner in the free app. In addition, we’ll work on creating more engaging and
relevant ads that are less intrusive while increasing ad revenue. We also plan to improve our food
database by offering an option with only verified data, ensuring users get the most accurate
information. We’ll also enhance the onboarding experience for new users. Lastly, implementing
AI features will allow us to provide custom meal plans based on users’ needs and goals.”

Slide 8: Expected Outcomes

Script:

“By implementing these changes, we expect several key outcomes. First, we’ll improve users’
perception of the app and regain their trust. These changes will help bring back users who
stopped using the app after the free plan changes. By providing a verified and more accurate
food database, we’ll position MyFitnessPal as the most reliable option in the market. The
introduction of AI features, such as custom meal plans and coaching recommendations, will
support new users and those unfamiliar with food tracking. Ultimately, these changes will drive
increased app usage, especially among free users, which will lead to more ad impressions and,
consequently, increased ad revenue.”

Slide 9: Redesign Benefits

Script:

“Our redesign will also bring additional benefits. First, we’ll create a new news cycle to cover
our changes, which will help increase our reach and attract new users thanks to the media
coverage. A modern design will improve the positive perception from users, who will see
MyFitnessPal as a fresh and updated service. The new design trends that value a simpler, flat
layout will help improve user navigation, making it easier for users to find what they need. These
trends will also allow us to create more seamless, integrated ads that blend better with the app’s
interface. Overall, a modern design will make it easier for users to track their meals, and the
visual enhancements—like icons and food drawings—will help users glance faster at what
they’re tracking.”
Slide 10: Marketing Plan

Script:

“To support this redesign, here is the plan for the marketing department. First, we’ll create a
social media campaign with written posts and short video content, such as Reels and YouTube
Shorts, to showcase our new design and features. We’ll partner with influencers and content
creators in the food and diet space to create embargoed content, which will be released once we
launch the new design. To reach a broader audience, we’ll prepare press releases targeting tech
and diet outlets or blogs, ensuring we get media coverage and increase awareness of the new
features. Once all these components are in place, we’ll officially launch the new MyFitnessPal
design.”

Slide 11: Sales Plan

Script:

“For the sales department, the plan is as follows: We’ll first make contact with companies in
various industries, such as Nature Made and Centrum in the food and supplement sectors, to get
accurate and verifiable data for our new food database. We’ll also reach out to gym equipment
companies like Crunch and Bowflex to discuss potential ad partnerships. Sport drink companies
like Gatorade could be potential partners, given our users’ focus on exercise tracking. Finally,
athletic clothing companies like Under Armor and Lululemon are great ad partners, considering
our users’ interest in fitness.”

Slide 12: Conclusion

Script:

“In conclusion, these changes to the app’s design, feature offerings, and database—along with
the implementation of AI and dynamic ads—will help us regain new users and elevate
MyFitnessPal back to its position as the market leader. By enhancing our app’s user experience,
offering more accurate information, and integrating the latest trends in technology, we’ll provide
a better service for our users and continue to grow as a company. Thank you so much for
listening to my presentation, and I’m happy to take any questions you might have.”
