Output Devices

Output devices are hardware that communicate processed data from a computer to users in understandable formats, with examples including speakers, headphones, monitors, and projectors. Each device has specific uses, advantages, and disadvantages, such as speakers providing atmosphere but potentially disturbing others, and monitors offering improved communication but being expensive. Overall, output devices play a crucial role in presenting information effectively to users.

Output Devices

• Is any piece of hardware equipment used to

communicate the result of data carried out by an
information processing system such as
computer to the outside world.

• Translate the data processed by the computer

into a format that people can understand,
appreciate and work with (E.g. in video, text,
image)

• Less complex than input devices because they

only have to turn computer signals into an input.

• Examples of output devices:

-Speakers
-Headphones
-Monitor
-Projector
Speakers

• Speakers (or loudspeakers) are output devices

that produce sound.
• When connected to a computer system,
digitised sound stored on a file needs to be
converted into sound.
• The digital data is first passed through a digital
to analogue converter (DAC) where it is
changed into an electric current.

Uses of Speaker

• Used in all phones and built in to most computers.

• Outputs sound from multimedia presentations.
• Plays downloaded sound files.
Advantages of speaker

• It can create a good atmosphere when making a

presentation.
• Everyone in a conference, for example, can hear
the output from a computer.
• Very simple technology.

Disadvantages of speaker

• Speaker output can be disturbing to others in, for

example, an office environment.

Headphones
• Headphones are smaller versions of
loudspeakers, one that can be carried around
one’s neck all day and they cover both the ears
reaching across from around the head.
• They’re generally cushioned for comfort and helps
in noise cancellation.

Use of Headphone

• These things connect to a signal source like an

electronic musical instrument, video game
console, mobile phone, portable media player,
radio or wireless connection like Bluetooth.

Advantages of headphone

• Headphones provide better sound quality than any

audio output device.
• Noise-canceling headphone blocks all unwanted
noise and distractions to allow you to focus on the
tasks at hand.
• They’re lightweight and made for easy movement.
Disadvantage of headphone

• Listening through headphones at high volume can

result in lifelong loss hearing.
• Focusing and concentration powers can get weak.

• Listening with your earphone in your hand or

crossing the road while listening over the phone
can put your life at risk.

• To get high-quality sound, the required

headphones can be quite expensive.
Monitors

• Computer monitor works as an output device

that helps to provide output in the form of
graphically and text as well.

Uses of monitor

• It can be used to display a computer’s output.

• It can be text, graphics, photos, or video from
the internet.
• They are often found in offices where people
use them routinely to get work done.
Advantages of monitor

• It provides the proper lighting in the eyes.

• Improved Communication.
• Energy consumption.

Disadvantages of monitor

• Expensive.
• Less desk spaces.
• Can only built in fixed position.
Projector

• Projectors are display devices and optical

equipment you can use to project video, slides,
and images onto a screen, especially in a
classroom or office.

Advantages of projector

• Screen customization.
• Enables many people to see a presentation rather
than crowding around a small computer screen.
Disadvantages of projector

• A dark room is very often required to use a

projector.
• Expensive to buy.
• Images can sometime be fuzzy.
