Computer Fundamentals

1. Basic Computer Components


A computer has two main components: hardware and software.

Hardware:

- The physical parts of a computer.

- Includes CPU, monitor, keyboard, mouse, printer, etc.

Software:

- The programs and operating systems used by a computer.

- Examples include Windows, MS Word, Chrome, games, etc.

Central Processing Unit (CPU):

- The brain of the computer where most calculations take place.

- Consists of ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit), CU (Control Unit), and memory.

Memory:

- RAM (Random Access Memory): Temporary storage used while the computer is running.

- ROM (Read-Only Memory): Permanent storage for system instructions.


2. Types of Computers
Types of Computers:

- Desktop: Personal computer designed for regular use at a single location.

- Laptop: Portable computer with integrated screen and keyboard.

- Tablet: Touchscreen device, portable and compact.

- Server: Provides data to other computers over a network.

- Supercomputer: High-performance computer used for complex tasks.

Input Devices:

- Devices used to enter data into a computer.

- Examples: Keyboard, mouse, scanner, microphone.

Output Devices:

- Devices that receive data from a computer and present it to the user.

- Examples: Monitor, printer, speakers.
