on
“User Intention & Propensity Towards
Subscription-Based Shared Services (PSS)”

• Submitted by: Mr. Rajeev Sahu

• Owner- Sahu Mobile & Accessories
• Location: KIIT Road, Patia, Bhubaneswar

1. Introduction About Myself:

• My name is Rajeev Sahu.I run a mobile shop here at KIIT Road in Patia,
Bhubaneswar. It’s been around 6 years since I opened this shop. I studied
till 12th class and after that got involved in business. I am 34 years old now
and mostly sell mobile phones, phone covers, chargers, and such items. My
shop’s name is Sahu Mobile & Accessories.

• Because of the college nearby (KIIT), I mostly deal with students and young
people. I get to talk to many of them every day and learn new trends and
things from them.
2. High-Value Items I Use or Buy:

• Being in this business, I deal with a few costly things. Personally, I have
bought a two-wheeler, a laptop for work, and of course, a good
smartphone, also at home, I have basic appliances like fridge and purifier.
Sometimes during offers, I buy gadgets like smartwatches or Bluetooth
speakers. many students who come to my shop also ask me about good
offers or second-hand items.

3. About Subscription-Based Services:

• Yes, I have heard about these services where people don’t buy the item but
take it on rent or through subscription. Like, instead of buying a fridge or
table, students just take it for rent while they stay here.

• Some services I’ve seen:

a) Zoomcar – used once with my friend for going to Puri.

b) Rentomojo – my cousin used to rent a bed and table when he was studying
here.
c) Furlenco– heard about it but not seen anyone use much.
d) Most students here use apps like Netflix or Prime too — those are also
subscription services in a way.

4. Why These Services are Useful:

I think the main reason people like these is:

a) They are cheaper than buying.
b) You don’t need to maintain or repair.
c) Perfect for people staying for short time.
d) It’s easy to take and return. For example, if a student is here for 2 years, why
would he buy a fridge? Better to rent.

5. Why Some People Still Prefer Buying?

• But yes, not everyone likes this idea. Some reasons I’ve seen:

a) People don’t trust new platforms.

b) They feel it’s better to own than rent.
c) Long-term use becomes costly in rent.
d) Not all services are available here in Patia. Also, people in our area feel
proud of owning things, especially big items like bikes or electronics.

6. Comfort with Using Apps:

• Nowadays everyone is using mobile apps. Even I use Paytm, Amazon,

Flipkart, and all for my business and personal shopping. Students and
working people are very comfortable .So yes, mobile apps are not a
problem here.

7. Trust in Online Platforms:

• I trust big names like Amazon, Flipkart, zoom-car ,etc. But if some unknown
app comes, I do feel like checking reviews or asking others first. My
customers too ask “bhaiya, is this site trusted?” before doing anything.

8. Will I Use Subscription-Based Services?

• Yes, if needed. Suppose I shift my house or shop temporarily, I’ll rent a

fridge or table instead of buying. I would rate it 8 out of 10 in usefulness for
me personally.

9. Suggestions for Improving Such Services:

• If they really want people to use such services, then:

a) Make cancellation easy.

b) Have some physical counter or office for help.
c) Give trial for 1 month.
d) Offer some student discounts.
e) Provide short rental options like 1 month or 2 months.
• That will help more people to trust and try these things.

Final Words:

• Being a shopkeeper in this area, I have seen many students and

young professionals show interest in smart ways of using things.
Subscription model is a good idea, but not everyone knows about
it or feels safe. If companies do more promotion and build trust,
then this model will grow here too.
