1. In a retail market, fruit vendors were selling mangoes kept in packing boxes. These boxes contained varying number

of mangoes. The following was the distribution of mangoes according to the number of boxes:

Find the mean number of mangoes kept in a packing box. Use all the three methods to find it.

2. To find out the concentration of SO2 in the air (in parts per million, i.e., ppm), the data was collected for 30 localities
in a certain city and is presented below:

took by mistake 50 instead of 40 for one observation. What are the correct mean and standard deviation?

27. Given that x̄ is the mean and σ 2 is the variance of n observations x1 , x2 , · · · , xn . Prove that the mean and variance

28. The mean and standard deviation of 20 observations are found to be 10 and 2, respectively. On rechecking, it was
found that an observation 8 was incorrect. Calculate the correct mean and standard deviation in each of the following
