Frequently Asked Questions
• Who can register for the Kiwi Competitions? - Only students who are currently in the
advertised year groups can enter the competitions. There are no exceptions to this rule.
• When do registrations for Kiwi English, Mathematics and Science Competitions close? -
9th May 2025.
• What dates are the Kiwi English, Mathematics and Science Competitions online? – 9th June –
18th July 2025 (School term only).
• When do registrations for Kiwi Spelling Bee close? – 1st August 2025.
• What dates are the Kiwi Spelling Bee online? – 1st September – 19th September 2025.
• Where do the students get their usernames and passwords? – Coordinators log-in and
download these and distribute to the students (Coordinators will be emailed when these are
available for downloading).
• Where do I find the URL? – The URL is printed on the slips with the student’s usernames and
passwords.
• Can I enter a younger year group? – Students who are not currently in year’s 5 to 10 cannot
participate in the competitions.
• What computer specifications are suitable to take the competition? – (See attached sheet
for full specs).
• What if a students laptop/device fails during the competition? − It is the schools
responsibility to ensure that students have the correct equipment, fully charged and allow
enough time to participate in the competitions.
• Are there any past papers available for students or teachers? – NO, test papers are not
available to students or teachers, as prizes are awarded for top scorers and some items may
be used in subsequent years. The skills-based assessments are designed as competitions, not
a teaching resource.
• What is the cost for the Kiwi Competitions? - $9.90 per competition entered.
• When should we send payment for the competitions? – Schools should collect the money
from students but wait to send to CAM until you have received an invoice (after the
competition has been completed). NOTE: Students that do not sit the competition but had
registered will not be charged.
• Do the students receive a certificate? – Yes, all students receive a certificate and in addition
is an ‘Individual Student Report’ outlining performance overall and for each section, their
level of completion and accuracy. These reports are available for the schools to download for
parents/caregivers.
• Do the students receive a prize? – A prize is awarded to the overall top student in each
competition and year group. If two or more students share the same top score, then the
prize is awarded to the student with the highest speed and accuracy.
• When are the results available for the Kiwi English, Mathematics and Science
Competitions? – Results should be available before the end of Term 3.
• When are the results available for the Kiwi Spelling Bee Competitions? – Results will be
available during Term 4.
• How do I know if the students have submitted their answers? – Answers automatically
submit, once the time has expired or the students end their session.
• Is a Reader/Writer allowed during the competition? – If the student would normally have a
reader/writer in the classroom and for other assessments, then it is fine for the student to
have a reader/writer for the Kiwi Competitions.

On-line Kiwi Competition Assessments
User System Specification
The on-line Kiwi Competition assessments MUST be administered on a desktop computer,
laptop, Chromebook or iPads. All users should have more than one browser on their
device.
There may be some drag and drop questions included in the competition. If your
students are not confident using the trackpad on a Chromebook or similar, then we
would recommend the use of a mouse.
Use of the on-line KIWI Competition assessments requires a reliable network connection
and a modern web browser.
Internet Browsers
The assessments will work in any modern web browser. However, the following browsers
work best:
• Google Chrome
• Firefox
• Microsoft Edge
• Safari
The browser should also have both cookies and JavaScript enabled. These are typically enabled by
default, but if you think these settings might need enabling, check the documentation for your
particular browser for how to do this.
Internet Connection
• For the assessment to run successfully we recommend a broadband connection.
The Kiwi Competition assessments recommends the availability of IT support during the
assessment.
Spelling Bee only
Students will need their own individual headphones/air buds, so they are able to listen to
the audios throughout the competition.
