Device Driver Installation Troubleshooting using the WDKDI.exe Tool Introduction: In several instances issues with Vodafone Mobile Broadband are caused by the drivers for the device not installing correctly under Windows Device Manager. In the past this has, in some cases, led to lengthy troubleshooting as drivers are manually removed and reinstalled in order to get the components showing up correctly. With Vodafone Mobile Broadband 10.1 and above there is now a tool present in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Vodafone\Vodafone Mobile Broadband\Driver folder called WDKDI.exe which can be used to quickly remove and reinstall drivers, resolving several driver installation issues without the need for in depth work within Windows Device Manager. Utilising this tool it is possible to resolve issues where devices are either missing entries, e.g. in the case of Huawei devices where only the storage/virtual CD drive install, or the entries are present but not installed correctly e.g. showing question marks and exclamation marks. WDKDI stands for Windows Development Kit Driver Installer Limitations: To my knowledge, this tool will not resolve issues where the modem installs, but displays error 31 (this will still require the E220PatchTool to be run in order to correct registry entries), or where the K3760 installs only the virtual CD Rom drive and is stuck in storage mode (this will require the SwitchZCOption Tool to be run which can be found in C:\Program Files\Vodafone\Vodafone Mobile Broadband\Drivers folder on recent VMB versions). When to use the Tool: This tool should be used when investigations into problems with Vodafone Mobile Broadband show that there has been a driver installation issue. Faults that can lead to this tool being required are where Vodafone Mobile Broadband shows No Device after install, and in some instances of 635 error where components are not installed or missing. If in doubt, check Windows Device Manager. If components are missing or not installed correctly, with the exception of the cases listed in the Limitations section above, run the WDKDI tool to see if this resolves the issues. e.g:

The tool will then remove the entries and report back its results as well as whether a reboot is required or not. Reboot if requested. If no reboot is required unplug the device and plug it back in. Relaunch the Vodafone Mobile Broadband software and retest. Regards Nick Dixon Data Support Specialist Enterprise Technical Support
