Computer Fundamentals & Operating System
Week 1 Unit 1- Computer Fundamentals:-
Introduction to Computer, characteristics & its applications, History & Generation of computer,
Advantages/ Disadvantages ,Classification of computers, components of computer, Memory and its
types, Storage devices, Concept of data and information Number system and its conversions from
binary and decimal and vice versa.

Unit 2- Operating System:-


Operating System and types of operating systems, Functions of Operating System, windows and its
features, Components of windows (desktop, icons, start button etc.), Operations on windows,
Managing files and folders, Control Panel, Personalizing your window, Window Accessories,
compression utilities (winrar, winzip).

Week 2 What is multimedia, elements of multimedia (Text, Image, Fonts, Audio and Video), different formats
of image, audio and video files,
Using External Devices: - Usage of Pen Drive/CD/DVD, USB ports, Copying files from/to pen drive
from/to computer, Safely removing a pen drive, reading/writing/burning a CD/DVD.

Unit 3 - Installation, Handling & Troubleshooting:-


Buying a Computer- Key Things to know Before Buying a Computer like Usability, Price, Operating
System, Processor, RAM, Hard Drive, Built In Graphics etc. Connecting computer with peripherals and
other devices, Solutions for common computer issues.
Handling issues related to printer, scanner, using projector.

Week 3 Unit 2- Word Processing
Introduction & Basics of word processing – Getting started, The word interface, Backstage view
(Creating, opening and saving document, document properties), Entering and editing text, paragraph
creation, moving text (Cut, Copy & Paste), Holding multiple items in clipboard, Undo, Redo, Using
Shortcuts, Zoom In-Out Converting to PDF.

Week 4 Formatting Documents- Setting font styles, size, color, Typeface (Bold, Italic, Underline), Font effects,
Change case, Highlighting, paragraph indenting , Alignments, Line Spacing, Drop cap, Bullets &
Numberings, Borders & shadings, Header & Footer, Footnote & Endnote, Inserting Page break, Page
numbering, Date & Time, Line Break, Word Wrap, Creating Cover page, Page Border, Table of Contents,
Using Page Themes & Color, Inserting Watermarks
Week 5 Page Layout & Printing- Page Orientation, Setting page margins, Page size, Columns, Page Setup &
Printing.
Working with Tables- Creating tables, Table Styles, Borders & Shadings , Cell Alignment, Inserting &
Deleting rows or columns, Merging, Splitting, Sorting, Using formula. Converting table into graphs.
Week 6 Inserting Objects- Inserting ClipArt, Pictures, Textboxes and other files, Formatting & editing pictures,
picture styles, Picture borders, effects & layouts, Positioning, grouping & ordering, rotating and
cropping, Adding and Editing Shapes & SmartArt, Inserting Various types of charts, Charts layout and
formatting.

Week 7 Features & Tools- Find and Replace, Auto Correct, Bookmarks, Hyperlinks & Cross-Reference, Spell
Check, Thesaurus, Macros, Mail Merge, Track changes, Document Protection & Security

Unit 3- Spreadsheet
Introduction and Basics of Spreadsheet - Creating a Spreadsheet, Entering data into Spreadsheet, Rows,
Columns & Cells, Selecting Range, Cell Addressing, Filling continuous rows or columns, Inserting,
Deleting or Hiding a Row, Column or Worksheet.
Formulas & Functions- Mathematical Operations (Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division),
Creating & Copying Formulas and Using Functions, Cell Referencing (Absolute, Relative & Mixed), Cube
/ 3D Formula, HLookup & VLookup.
Week 8 Formatting Spreadsheets- Formatting cells (Setting Fonts, Text Decoration, Setting Background Colors,
Text Alignment, Merge & Wraps, Border & Shading), Formatting Worksheet (Page Orientation,
Adjusting Margins, Header & Footer, Insert Page break, Set Background, Freeze Panes, Conditional
Formatting.
Week 9 Advance Operations- Data Sorting & Filtering, Creating Data List, Data Validation, Consolidation, What-
if Analysis.
Creating Charts and Graphs- Adding different types of Charts, Charts layout and formatting, Pivot tables
& Charts.
Other Tools & Printing - Find & Replace, Spell Check, Thesaurus, Macros, Track Changes, Workbook &
Worksheet Protection, Page Setup & Printing.
Week 10 Unit 4- Digital Presentation
Introduction and Basics of Digital Presentation- Creating, Opening and saving a Presentation, Save as
PDF, Image or Video file, Selecting Presentation Layouts, Applying Themes & Background, Add & Delete
Slides, what is a Placeholder, Adding Text to a slide, PowerPoint Views, Printing handouts and slides.
Formatting a Presentation- Setting Font size & style, Formatting Text Color, Text Alignment, Insert a
Textbox, Adding Header & Footer, Using Slide Master.

Week 11 Inserting Objects & Multimedia- Inserting Tables, Charts, Shapes and other objects, Adding Text to
Shapes, Group/Ungroup Objects, Creating Photo Album, Inserting and Formatting Pictures, Clipart,
Movies, Setting Animation & Transition effects, Adding Audio & Video.

Introduction to Database and RDBMS, Limitations of manual system, Introduction to MS- Access,
Creating a New Database, Creating and modifying table

Week 14 Unit – 1 Basic Concepts of Network & Internet
What is Network, Types of networks, Concept of Client and Server, Network Topologies, Network
communication media, network devices, network protocols, Concept of Internet, Application of
internet, Advantages and disadvantages of internet, Domain Name System, Internet Connectivity,
WWW and Web browsers, Navigating through web, Uploading & Downloading, Services on web, Using

Unit -2 E-mail
