We want to realize a gate as indicated above. This gate is made up of two leaves. Each leaf is 2 meters wide.
Now, we want to make a gate of the same shape but using separate rectangular boards of width 0.12 m, spaced of 0.05 m. For the
right leaf, the upper left corner of each board is located on the upper edge of the leaf, meaning on the curve (C) (see the figure
above) and the bottom of each board is located at a height of 0.05 m from the ground. The boards are numbered starting from 0
(thus the first board is numbered 0, the second board is numbered 1, etc…).
1. Show that the area 𝐴(𝑘) in m2 of the board numbered k is given by 𝐴(𝑘) = (𝑓(0.17𝑘) − 0.05) × 0.12.
2. Prove that 12 boards are needed to build the right leaf of the gate.
3. Let 𝑆 be the total sum of the areas of all the boards composing the right leaf of the gate. The following table gives you the

5. ∀𝑥 ∈ [0; 2], 𝑓 ′′ (𝑥) = 4(4𝑥 − 1)𝑒 −4𝑥 et 𝑓 ′′ (𝑥) > 0 ⇔ 𝑥 >

∴ La courbe (C) admet un unique point d’inflexion; c’est le point 𝐴 (4 ; 2 𝑒 −1 + 4).
