Thirst For The Word International School of Discipleship is specially designed and
formulated to develop and enhance spiritual growth, equip and prepare believers,
church workers, ministers and pastors for the work of ministry.

Hence, it became imperative to put this material together in a book and most
especially, because of the high demand from our people.

This manual therefore is a collection and collation of series of in house teachings


carried out during our discipleship training sessions.

My prayer for you is that, God will transform your life for the better and make you
an agent of transformation to your world.

I commend you to word of His grace which is able to build you up and to give you
an inheritance amongst the saints, Amen.

Chapter One
The Concept & Definition of Discipleship

Discipleship is the process where believers are being made to become like the
Lord Jesus Christ through different spiritual activities and disciples administered
by the leadership of the Lord Jesus Himself.

Matthew 4vs18-19, 8vs19-22, 9vs9, 16vs24, 19vs24.

The making of a disciple lies in the followership. In following the Lord Jesus, in
word and action, you are made to become like Him.

“For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the


image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many
brethren”.Romans8vs.29.

The Greek word “foreknow” is proginosko, meaning to know beforehand, to


know in advance, and to foresee. The word is used of God’s eternal counsel or
purpose. It speaks of what God has purposed to do prior to human history. It
connotes to approve beforehand or in advance, to make a choice.

The salvation of every believer is known and determined by God before its
realization.

Elect in 1Peter1vs2, is the Greek word eklektos meaning selection, chosen,


choice.The same word is found in Ephessians1vs4-5, & vs11.

Predestinate is the Greek word proorizo, which means to determine, decide or


predetermine in advance.

The word (proorizo) is used to declare God’s eternal decrees of both the objects
and goals of His plan of salvation.
