POWER BI -

What is BI ?

BI means business intelligence.

It basically means to transform a raw data into business insights as per

organisational need.
To use any data for visualisation, we would require a clean or organised data for
decision making.
Data could come from different sources or in different format. It helps to
transform the data into a format which is
understandable.
It means to take a data which is not understandable and with the help of business
intelligence, convert the same data
into an understandable format.

RAW DATA ---- BUSINESS ------ DATA INSIGHTS

INTELLIGENCE

BI Features :-
1. Quick navigation over data
2. Better business understanding
3. Instant answers
4. Decision making

Phases of BI :-

IT Dependent ---- Analyst ----- End users

In earlier days, in order to get the clean data from raw data , companies were
dependent on IT to do the work for them.
In order to understand the clean data, companies use to go to an analyst who
further clean up the data according to him and provide
only the data which is the ask of company and this data was than given to end user
who use to present it in front of
company management.
Now, we have such data tools which skips all these efforts and now user can clean
the data , generate the report and
easily present the data in front of stakeholders.

Data Visualisation :-

Three things in data visualisation is Intersection of design, Information science

and communication.
For example - An user want to figure out the sales on quarterly basis for a
particular product in a company.
Now user will be needing a clean data which includes all these information and user
need to communicate the information
to some stakeholders. How will this data communicated ? -- It will be in form of a
design which could be visualised
properly and it is called as Data visualisation.
There is a data with 10000 records and if you directly send it to some
stakeholders, it would be a mess to understand.
Instead if you convert the same data into a graph format, it would be better for
understanding.
Data visualisation is effective because it conveys a lot of information in a small
space.( For example - If you read a
book, it will take you 5-7 days however if you watch a movie, it will only take you
2-3 hrs.)

Data Visualisation Tools :-

Tableau
Excel
Clickview, clicksense(Analytics tools)

What is PowerBI ?

From connection to collaboration, PowerBI is the most powerful, secure and flexible
end-to-end analytics platform
for your data.
From data generation to data presenting, this tools take care of a lot of things.
Primary function of PowerBI si to take a raw data and to generate a visualisation
out of that data.

Features of PowerBI :-

1. Apt visualisation - Number of options to visualise or customize your data.

2. Depth - It helps you to dive - in deep into your data to grab any sort of
information.
3. Automatic function - It helps you to use automatic functions to create better
visualisation.
4. Connection to data

Power BI Architecture :-

Data Integration - Bring Raw data

Data Processing - Transform into clean data
Data Presentation - Present it to any stakeholders

Take data from different sources --- move it to different platforms/server ---use
that data to create visualisation using PowerBI.

Components of Power BI :-

Power Query
Power View
PowerBI QNA
Power Pivot
Power Map

Power Query - It is an important component of Power BI in excel.

It is basically used to delete data from numerous data sources or extract data from
wide range of different data
sources like oracle,SQL server, MySQL Bit. Also you can fetch data from records
like csv, excel files.
Power BI gives power to play with your data. It also gives you a strong GUI
depending on your needs.
Power Query is useful as it uses M formula language. It also let you deal with data
processing.

Power Pivot :- It is a data modelling and calculation engine. It is used to arrange

a simple and complex data.
It helps to set relationship between different tables and calculate values and can
be viewed on pivot tables.
It also gives a lot of space to create design.

Power View :-
It is a data visualisation component and it lets us interact with data and connect
to different data sources.
You can retreive the metadata you have. You can filter data for every visualisation
, or entire report.
You can add slicers to your data , higlight different data.

Power map - is used to visualise geographic data.

Power BI QNA - It is a language motor and helps to questions certain queries and it
provides answers to your questions.

Building blocks of Power BI :-

Visualisation
Datasets
Reports
Dashboards
Tiles

Visualisation - when you want to convey your data in bargraph, charts. It can be
represented by visualisation.
Datasets -Different sources of data Power BI supports.
Tiles - is a flexible , movable visualisation which user can pick up and add it in
their report.
Report - one or more pages of visualisation , graphics and texts which are put
together to convey a information.
Dashboard - is conveying a lot of information on a single page.
