Quadratic Function 1

The document discusses the importance of finding functions that describe physical situations, particularly in scientific data analysis. It presents the general form of quadratic functions and outlines steps for finding the inverse of a one-to-one function. Additionally, it includes an example of finding the inverse of a specific quadratic function and sketching its graph alongside its inverse.

Function
MR . Ghaith Atef
In real-world applications, the function that describes a physical situation is not always given.
Finding the function is an important part of solving problems. For example, scientific data such as
observations of planetary motion are often collected as a set of measurements
presented in a table. One job for a scientist is to figure out
which function best fits the data.
𝑦 = 𝑎𝑥 2 + 𝑏𝑥 + 𝑐
𝑦 = 𝑎(𝑥 − 𝑠)(𝑥 − 𝑡)
𝑦 =𝑎 𝑥−ℎ 2+𝑘
Steps for Finding the Inverse of a
One-to-One Function

y = f -1(x)

Solve for y

Trade x and
y places

Replace f(x)
with y
Given the function : y = 3x2 + 2 find the inverse:

Step 1: Switch x and y: x = 3y2 + 2

Step 2: Solve for y:

On the same axes, sketch the graph of
y = ( x − 2) ,

x2
and its inverse.

Solution: y=x
