Class Observation

The observation instrument evaluates a teacher's effectiveness in creating a friendly and contemporary learning environment, promoting student engagement, and utilizing teaching practices that encourage participation without fear of mistakes. The teacher is noted for her direct yet kind approach, active listening, and ability to manage the class dynamics effectively, despite the students' chatter. The all-girls setting fostered camaraderie but also led to challenges in maintaining focus during lessons.

CHART 1: OBSERVATION INSTRUMENT

Student observation YE NO Explain according to knowledge

S acquired and sustain
1. Did I perceive a friendly X The students don’t take the teacher’s
environment? comments to heart, they interact with
each other and the teacher by making
light jokes. There were only women in
the class, so there was an unspoken
camaraderie.
2. Is the teaching contemporary? X She involves the students in all steps of
the class. In this particular class there
were a lot of practice exercises, the
teacher helped correct them by asking
for feedback and then giving the correct
answer. There are times when she takes
control of the class and explains a topic,
it feels old school, but then she asks for
the student’s opinions and it becomes
more dynamic. She doesn’t use
technology.
3. As seen , was motivation X She encourages students to participate

Why? gives constant compliments and words
of affirmation.
4. According to competency X In this subject they are supposed to be
development.Did you perceive able to identify the parts of a sentence
some characteristics? Which so she makes them do several exercises

5. Was the learner engaged in X Most of the class were. They were very
learning? chatty, so the teacher had to shush them
and stop them from doing work from
other subjects. They barely asked
questions, but I would think it’s because
they understood the topic.
6. Was the teacher promoting X No, but it didn’t feel necessary, her
didactic resources ? Which? class was complete enough without
external resources. However, she
dislikes AI and doesn’t promote its
usage.
7. Was the teacher an active listener X She asks for the students’ well-being
? before moving on from a topic and
takes it into consideration. She pays
attention to whomever wants to
participate. She takes small breaks to
chat with her students and also uses
their examples for class work.
8. Was the teacher an observant ? X She walks around class to check what
her students are doing. She changes the
markers when they run out of ink. She
looks into the tiny details of the
students’ mistakes.
9. If you were the student in that X I found the teacher’s style very direct
particular class would you learn but also kind and encouraging. I have
from its teaching practices? taken classes with her before and really
enjoy them.
10 Is the teacher patient enough to X She gives compliments where they’re
. solve problems and respond? due and when making corrections there
HOW? is no judgement. She gives several
examples to explain and writes
definitions on the board. When a
mistake happens, she gives an in depth
explanation as to why.

As I mentioned on the chart before, I have taken classes with this teacher before. I enjoy her
style of teaching, I think it’s professional but also friendly. The teacher was very open to us
going to observe her class, so we could feel pride and openness from her.
It was an all girls environment, and interestingly enough, we could feel the difference. As
there were no boys, girls were comfortable enough to be themselves. This also caused some
difficulties in the class, because they talked a lot between them. The teacher had good class
management, she was able to control them even though there were a lot.
