Google’s search algorithm is a complex system that helps find and rank web pages
based on what people are searching for. When people talk about the “Google
algorithm,” they’re usually referring to the ranking system that decides which results
show up first. Google updates its search algorithms almost every day, but most of
these changes are small and go unnoticed. However, a few times a year, Google
rolls out major updates—called core updates—that can significantly impact website
rankings. These updates are announced by Google and are designed to improve
search results, ensuring users get the most relevant and high-quality content.
2. Ranking algorithm

The most important update to Google’s ranking algorithm was called Panda (2011).
3. PageRank
PageRank is the algorithm that determines the importance of a page based on its
link profile.
4. Spam algorithm
This algorithm helps Google find pages and websites that violate Google’s Spam
Policies, demote them in the search results, or remove them from the search index
altogether. Penguin (2012) was the codename of the major update to this algorithm.
5. RankBrain
RankBrain is a machine-learning algorithm that helps Google understand and
interpret search queries and return relevant results.
