15. (c)

SECTION B
IV. Define the following (3x2=6)

1. Dialysis: It is a medical process through which doctors remove body

wastes( 1 mark), if a person’s kidney is damaged( 1 mark).
2. Spectrum: The band of colours seen( 1 mark) when white light is
splitted into its different/seven colours( 1 mark).
3. Oxidation reaction: A chemical reaction which involves addition of
oxygen( 1 mark) or removal hydrogen(1 mark) from a substance.

V. Differentiate the following: (4x4=16)

1. 2 points of differences - 1mark for each point

Ascent of sap Translocation
It is the upward movement of sap Transportation of food prepared
that contains water and minerals. by the leaves to all parts of the
plants in the form of a solution.
It takes place through xylem. It takes place through phloem

2. 2 points of differences – 1 mark for each point

Concave Mirror Convex Mirror
A spherical mirror in which the A spherical mirror in which the
reflecting surface is on the reflecting surface is on the
inside. outside.
It can form a real or virtual and It always forms a virtual and
erect or inverted image erect image.
depending on the distance of the
object from the mirror.

3. 2 points of differences – 1 mark for each point(take any 2 points)

Sexual Reproduction Asexual Reproduction
Two parents, one male & one Only one parent is required.
female are required.
Offspring have a mix of Offspring are genetically

inherited genes. identical to the parent
In plants sexual reproduction In plants asexual reproduction
occurs by the formation of seeds. occurs without seeds.

4. 1 point of difference – 1 mark and 1 example in the form of

chemical equation – 1 mark
Exothermic reaction Endothermic reaction
Reactions accompanied with Reactions accompanied with
release of heat. absorption of heat.
C + O 2  CO 2 + heat C + 2S  CS 2 – heat
CaO + H 2 O  Ca(OH) 2 + heat N 2 + O 2  2NO – heat

VI Give reasons – 2 marks for each answer (4x2=8)

1. The metal of the spoon reacts with the acid present in the pickle and produce toxic
chemicals which is not good for health. So we should not put stainless steel spoons
in pickle jars.

2. Convex mirrors are used as rear view mirrors in vehicles. Since a

convex mirror forms smaller image of objects, it can be used to view a much larger
area.

3. In the absence of large petals, the anthers and pistils remain exposed
to the wind, making wind pollination easier.

4. White blood cells are said to be ‘soldiers of the body’ as their main function is to
fight against diseases by destroying harmful bacteria and other foreign materials.

VII Short answer questions: 2 mark for each answer. (5x2=10)

1. Reproductive part: Flower – 1mark

Vegetative part: root/stem/leaf(any one) – 1 mark

2. Two characteristics of chemical reactions: 1 mark for each

characteristics. (Take any two from the following.)
(i) A gas may be evolved
(ii) Change of colour
(iii) Energy change
(iv) Change of state
(v) Formation of precipitate

3. Transport/vascular system of plants consist of:

i) Xylem – 1 mark
ii) Phloem – 1 mark

4. 2 characteristics of image formed by a plane mirror: 1 mark for each

characteristics. (Take any two from the following.)
(i) image is virtual
(ii) erect
(iii) of the same size as the object
(iv) laterally inverted
(v) appears to be as much behind the mirror as the object is in front of it

5. The part of flower that does not fall : Ovary – 1 mark

It develops into Fruit – 1 mark

VIII Diagram based questions (1x10=10)

1. Observe the following experiment and answer the questions:

(a) Setup is used for laboratory preparation of Carbon dioxide – 1 mark (1+1=2)
Carbon dioxide turns lime water milky – 1 mark
(b) Carbon dioxide does not support combustion/ extinguishes lighted 1
candle – 1 mark

2. (1+1=2)
(a) Tissue culture – ½ mark
e.g. Chrysanthemums, Asparagus, orchids(any one) – ½ mark
(b) Layering – ½ mark
e.g. Rose, Chameli(Jasmine), Bougainvellia(any one) – ½ mark

3. Name the labeled parts of the heart. Write the function of part D. (2+1=3)
A – Right auricle ( ½ mark)
B – Right ventricle ( ½ mark)
C – Left auricle ( ½ mark)
D – Septum ( ½ mark)
Septum : Septum completely separates the right side of the heart from the left side
of the heart.
4. (a) Combination reaction (1+1=2)
(b) Double displacement reaction
