2.1. Program Curriculum

2.1.1. State the process used to identify extent of compliance of the Board curriculum for
attaining the Program Outcomes (POs) and Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs) as
mentioned in Annexure I. Also mention the identified curricula gaps, if any

Following is the process used to identify extent of compliance of University curriculum for
attaining the POs and PSOs.

 Identify Course Outcomes for each subject.

 Map each Course Outcome with POs and PSOs

 Based on All CO-POs/PSOs mapping, Map subject with POs and PSOs.

 Categorize entire Curriculum into Core Courses, Science & Humanities, Programming, Projects /
Lab Practices

 Map each category with POs and PSOs

PSO1: Apply principles of engineering and laboratory skills for building, testing, operation and
maintenance of electrical systems, such as electrical machines, power and energy systems.
PSO2: Model and analyse, design and realize physical systems, components or processes related to
electrical engineering systems.

Affiliating Board regarding curricular gaps and possible addition of new content/add-on courses in the
curriculum, to bridge the gap and to improve/attain certain POs & PSOs.
2.2 Teaching Learning Process

2.2.1. Describe Processes followed to ensure/improve quality of Teaching & Learning

 Department calendar of events is prepared well in advance before the commencement of


the semester based on college calendar of events. It consists of the activities planned for the
semester which includes internal test dates, display of internal marks ,conduction of events like
organizing guest lectures, conferences, industrial visit etc.

 Subject allotment is done well in advance for the staff to prepare lecture plans, course plan, soft
and hard copies of the lecture notes.

 As per the university guidelines 6-8 experiments are to be conducted. One or two experiments
are conducted beyond the specified list for relevant courses. Laboratory manual explaining the
details of the experiment, designing issues are available with the course teacher and are given to
students at the commencement of the semester.

 The faculty of department adopts various innovative Teaching & Learning methodologies to
create the best learning environment for student.

 These methodologies include traditional black board teaching, presentations, video lecturing,
collaborative learning methods are used where every concept is explained with real world
illustrations, design and problematic aspects are conveyed by a short cut method.

 The faculty are now oriented towards Outcome based Education (OBE) and are actively utilizing
the OBE to cater the learning needs of students by innovative way.

 Lecture Session duration 50 minutes. Laboratory duration is 2 hrs.

 Assignments are given to students for their better performance.

 Invited talks and seminars on the current trends are done regularly from the industry persons.

 Tutorial/Remedial classes are conducted for the slow learners based on their performance in
external exams and after the first internals.

 Motivating and guiding students for higher studies and university ranks. Technical quiz is
conducted for the students.

 All the faculties are requested to maintain Attendance registers as well as they mark their
attendance on ERP, course files, Work dairies. Industrial visits are conducted at least once a year
to reduce the gap between industry and institute.

 Workshops are organized to help the students to understand concepts beyond curriculum.

 One-one discussion, interaction between Professors and students has increased confidence levels
of the students.
 Identification of bright and weak students.

 Motivate the weak students to attend tutorials and help them solve more problems.

 Encourage the bright students to attend more workshops and technical talks.

2.2.2. Initiatives to improve the quality of semester tests and assignments

 Initiatives and Implementation details for improving the quality of Internal Semester Question papers
(Internal Assessment Test)

 The department conducts three internal assessment tests at 5th, 9th and 13th week respectively in every
semester.

 First test covers 30% of the syllabus, second test covers 70% of the syllabus and 3 rd test also known as
Pre-Board Examination covers full syllabus.

 The tests are conducted for a maximum of 50 marks. (No minimum marks criteria from the Board).

 The duration of the test is 2.30 hour and question paper are set to make the student to learn time
management.

Question Papers:

 For each subjects, question bank is prepared.

 While setting the question paper all previous university exam papers are taken into consideration.

 According to level of toughness the questions are prepared (viz., analyzing the problems, implementation
of modern tools, formulating the problems etc)

The questions will be of three categories:

 One third of the questions is straight and can be answered by all students.

 One third of the questions need analysis and use of content covered as per syllabus.

 Remaining one third of the questions is not straight. Certain amount of thinking, analysis and
mathematical knowledge are required to resolve.

II. Assignments:

 Assignment issue and submission dates are announced by the respective faculty members. Assignment
questions are prepared using Bloom’s Taxonomy process

 . Surprise tests, quizzes, video links are provided.


 In order to bridge the gap in curriculum, bright students are given some assignment beyond syllabus.

III. Evaluation:

 The faculties after every internal assessment test they explain the solution of the questions in the class
which will enable them to perform well in the final examination.

 For any genuine reasons, if a student was unable to perform well in the given three internal assessment
tests, improvement test is given to him/her.

 The average of the marks obtained from any best two test is chosen for the award of internal assessment
marks.

 If a candidate remains absent for all the tests conducted, the Internal assessment marks are marked as
“Absent” in the result.

 Assignments are used as a tool for practice and evaluation is based purely on Internal Assessment Test.

Impact analysis

 Moderate Internal and External examination.

 Improvement in overall performance of students thus improves the placement and higher studies.

 The stimulating environment made students to plan their study plan for better performance

2.2.3. Quality of Experiments


 Faculty members of respective specialization form a group with a team leader to discuss the
preparation of manual, Material requirements, conduction of experiments and cycle of
experiments before commencement of semester.
 The Electrical Engineering department Laboratories are conducted in session of 2 hours, in each
session the faculty explains the circuits/principle/ procedure of the experiment.
 The students will write the complete experiment concerned in the practical file, and performed
the experiment in the observation of lab assistant.
 The executed experiment with output, related theory is documented in the record book by the
students later which will be evaluated.
 In each subject many students are made to work on number of experiments for the better
understanding of the subject.
 Viva questions will be prepared in advance for all the experiment.
 The college organize inter collegiate contests, Symposiums, to encourage students to show their
ideas.
 The Laboratories are evaluated by the faculties for 40 marks based on their performance during
the semester, attendance, internal test and record submission
2.2.4. Quality of Students Projects and Report Writing

 Initiatives The student’s projects are selected in line with department mission, vision and
Program outcomes.

 Students are provided with brief idea of various fields for selecting the project ideas.

 The list of previous year projects is displayed at notice board which ensures no repetition of
project work and also encourages students to enhance the previous works.

 The faculties encourage the students to carry out in house projects and support will be provided
with all necessary software and hardware.

 The faculties encourage students to participate in project exhibitions.

 The project exhibition is aimed to provide common platform to exhibit their innovations and
their work towards excellence in latest technology.

 The faculties encourage students to publish their project work in reputed journals/conferences.

 The faculties encourage students to avail the external funding schemes for their project work.
(like KSCST, VTU project funding scheme)

Evaluation scheme for final year Project

 A project coordinator is appointed by the Head of the department who is responsible for
planning, scheduling and execution of all the activities related to the student project work.
 New innovative ideas are born for project work Skills or abilities of students improved.
 Knowledge on various aspects of project management were developed Confidence level of the
students was boosted.
 Improved teamwork spirit
 Implementation and deployment of the project for social benefits. Document Preparation and
presentation.
 More tendencies to showcase their project work in project exhibition were observed.

2.2.5. Industry Interaction and Industry Internship/Training

Training & Placement Cell identifies the organizations, suitable for Electrical Engineering students and
approach them to allow our students for internship/ summer training.

Faculty members also arrange internships (through their personal contacts) for the students, in suitable
organizations.

2.2.6. Information Access Facilities and Student Centric Learning Initiatives

 Department Library: The department has books on all the subjects related to the curriculum and also
some books which will help them gain extra knowledge. These books are issued to the students.
 Book Bank: The College has book bank facility. The books are issued to the students at a nominal
cost in each semester. IIMT college of Polytechnic, Greater Noida
 Access to other Libraries in Campus: The students also have access to libraries from other college in
the campus.
 Videos: Multimedia has many kinds of data such as text, audio, images, animation, video and
interactive content. These make the learning complementary with the existing tools. With video, the
students has more control over the information they receives and it provides additional opportunity for
deeper learning by being able to stop, rewind, fast forward, and replay content as many times as needed.
 PPTs: PPT can help teachers to teach a subject point wise so as to make the learning more efficient.
Power Point has become very popular because it's easy to learn, widely available, easy to understand the
subject.
 CDS/DVDS: CD/DVDs contain large amount of data in the form of video, documents and -audio.
Students can take back up from computer and store it in DVD.
 Transparencies: Transparencies are mainly used for drawing figures which are then placed on an
overhead projector for display.
 E-Notes: e Notes helps students to complete assignments and study for exams. E notes are sent to the
students by emails.

 Website-Notes: Websites includes educational video tutorials, instructional lectures, do-it yourself
guides, self-help tutorials, interactive presentations, animated explanations and many more. It helps
students to develop learning skills. Many websites are suggested by BTE in Curriculum
2.2.7. New Initiatives for embedding Professional Skills

For developing specialized skill development including communication, professional and

core employability skills classes on Professional Practices, Development of Life Skills &
Entrepreneurship Development are conducted.

Professional Practice and Entrepreneurship Development are trans-disciplinary academic

department focused on flexible work-related learning within higher education.

Professional Practice subject provides a platform to students to undergo activities which

will enable them to develop self-confidence. In this subject a student is needs to use the

knowledge and skills within a practical environment. Practicing in a professional manner

requires that individuals have skills, knowledge, values and attitudes appropriate to their role

and responsibility within the setting. In addition, it requires regular reflection upon practice

and engagement in supported, ongoing professional development.

Professional Practice is enhanced in several fields

 Effective communication is more than just exchanging information with others It involves

teamwork, decision making, and problem solving. It enables the students to communicate

even negative or difficult messages without creating conflict or destroying trust.

It is achieved in several ways-

 Interacting with peers to share thoughts

 Prepare notes on given topic.

 Conducting Seminars

 Conducting Group Discussions

 Guest lectures on Communication Skills

 Preparing report on industrial visits, expert lectures

 Organizing Paper Presentations.

 Industrial training provided to the students after 4th Semester helps the students in

gaining knowledge. It also allows them to work on real world problem and develops

confidence in them.

 Personality development means enhancing and grooming one’s outer and inner self

to bring about a positive change to your life. Each individual has a distinct persona

that can be developed, polished and refined. This process includes boosting one’s
confidence, improving communication and language speaking abilities, widening

ones scope of knowledge, developing certain hobbies or skills, learning manners.

It is achieved in several ways

1. Conducting guest lectures on Personality development

2. Organizing Seminars

3. Guest lectures on Stress Management

 Information search-Everybody can become more effective when it comes to

searching of information. Research suggests that cognitive strategies including

planning, monitoring and self-regulating actions could enhance individual search in

research database. Students are provided with different topics related to different

fields of study.

 Industrial visits -Industrial visit has its own importance in a career of a student who

is pursuing a professional degree. It is considered as a part of college curriculum.

Industrial visits provide students an insight regarding internal working of companies.

We know theoretical knowledge is not enough for making a good professional

career. With an aim to go beyond academics, industrial visit provides student a

practical perspective on the world of work. It provides students with an opportunity

to learn practically through interaction, working methods and employment practices.

 Workshops –Several workshops are conducted to improvise students in different

aspects such as

1. Workshops on Entrepreneurship development skills

2. Workshops on recent ongoing Electrical Engineering related topics.

 Mentoring --Mentoring is to support and encourage people to manage their own

learning in order that they may maximize their potential, develop their skills,

improve their performance and become the person they want to be. Mentoring is a
powerful personal development and empowerment tool. It is an effective way of

helping people to progress in their careers and is becoming increasing popular as its

potential is realized.

 Counseling is about talking to someone who understands what depression is and

what can help. Counselors are professionally trained to work with people on their

personal and emotional issues, including depression and suicide. Counseling offers

an opportunity to talk confidentially to someone impartial, so students are free to

explore your true feelings and be supported without judgment
