Assignment 5

The document is an assignment for the Process Dynamics and Control course from the Chemical and Biochemical Engineering Department, due on April 15, 2025. It includes three questions requiring analysis of block diagrams, determining system responses, and developing a block diagram for a cascade control system. The questions focus on calculating system outputs, maximum values, offsets, oscillation periods, and overshoots in response to disturbances.

Assignment-05
Submission Date: 15 April’25

Q. No 1: Consider a block diagram shown in Figure.

U

G2 G4

R G1 G3 C

G5

Determine C as a function of R & U

Q. No. 2: In the block diagram shown in Figure below, a unit step change in Load (disturbance) enters.
Determine the following,
d

Yset 1
KC=1.0 2 Y
(2𝑠 + 1)2

(a) The maximum value of y(t).

(b) The offset
(c) The period of oscillation
(d) The overshoot
Q. No. 3: Consider the cascade control of jacketed kettle with sensors, controllers, and control valve as
shown in Figure below. Neglect the disturbance in hot oil inlet temperature and tank inlet flow
is constant.
Assume transfer functions as:
Temperature
Temp. sensor 1: Gm1 sensor1
Temp. sensor 2: Gm2
Primary controller: GC1
Secondary controller: GC2
Control Valve: GV
Process: GP
Disturbance: Gd Temperature
Primary controller set point: TSP sensor2

Develop the corresponding block diagram.
