1.1 Purpose and scope of this document

This BIM Execution Plan (BEP) document contains the requirements and guidelines for the BIM process
on the (sample project).

The document is intended to create a clear and uniform way of working for all actors involved in the
project and provide guidelines for model-based design. The procedures cover requirements for BIM
design and all the drawings in the project and apply to all participating in this process.

The purpose of the document is to define the framework for managing the day to day BIM
deliverables on the Ulleval School project, ensure that models and associated drawings are made,
stored, shared, and delivered in a controlled, consistent and efficient manner so that current
requirements from the client, authorities, and partners are met.

Good knowledge of model-based design and engineering processes is required to understand and
apply this manual.

This document will be kept up to date throughout the project, when changes are made to these
procedures, this document will be updated with these. It is expected, that all parties with BIM-deliveries on
the project will make themselves familiar with the BEP and the changes that will take place.

All parties that are supposed to model or extract data from the model, e.g: quantities, drawings, etc., must
have profound knowledge and understanding of BEP content.

All other actors on the project are responsible for knowing the relevant parts of the plan, its content,
and being able to find the latest version

4.3 Design Authoring

Description

A process in which 3D software is used to develop a Building Information Model based on criteria that is
important to the translation of the building's design. Authoring tools create models while audit and analysis
tools study or add to the richness of information in a model. Most audit and analysis tools can be used for
Design Review and Engineering Analysis BIM Uses. Design authoring tools are the first step towards BIM
and the key is connecting the 3D model with a powerful database of properties, quantities, means and
methods, costs, and schedules.

Potential Value

• Transparency of design for all stakeholders

• Better control and quality control of design, cost, and schedule

• Powerful design visualization

• True collaboration between project stakeholders and BIM users

• Improved quality control and assurance

5 Modeling Rules

5.1 General rules

General object naming rules

• Objects must have reasonable type names. For example, walls can be named with XYZ or II first, to specify
function. Then the name should say something about material and dimension i.e: for the structural wall, it
would be: XYZ 200mm Concrete

• All identical types of construction must have the same name.

• Plans/floors/levels that are at the same height must also be named the same in all discipline models.

• Only main levels need to be exported to IFC.

General requirements for creating geometry and information

Unit in the "indoor disciplines" models must be millimeters.

• All objects must be a correct representation of the building parts they represent, that is, they must have
the right 3D shape and extent, exterior walls must be tight, building parts must join each other correctly,
room objects must be adjacent to floor, wall and ceiling objects etc.

• All disciplines must model in 3D the details that are appropriate to achieve a good collision control.

• All objects must belong to the correct floor.

• Generic objects can be used where the decision on construction type has not yet been made. These
objects should be replaced with more detailed types over time.

Generic objects must be defined on a basic level. It means that the element is defined in the following
point:

- element is an external or internal structure,

- element is load-bearing or not,

- elements category (building element type) must be correct.

• All objects must have the correct IFC class/type when exporting.

13
Document ID: ZQ40_RUWVGE7OGSLK79HYW

• All interdisciplinary controls are based on objects' GUIDs (Globally Unique Identifier- provides a way of
uniquely identifying an object in the model). Model objects should, therefore, to the possible extent,
only be replaced, moved, or changed. It is not advisable to delete model objects and place them again (due
to the loss of the unique GUID of the given object). This is the recommended working method after starting
with interdisciplinary checks but is not a requirement.

• Room objects are established in the Architectural model so that Technical systems models (HVAC,
Electrical, and Plumbing) can make use of the room information.

5.2 Specific rules for Architectural and Structural models

- The Architectural (ARC) and Structural (STR ) models together form the basis for the working drawings.

- In order to avoid maintaining the same objects in both ARC and STR models, it is decided that ARC
removes some of the structural elements in its model.

- Constructive covers and columns are modeled in the STR model and adjusted in relation to 3D scans.

- ARC links in the STR underlay and shows structural columns and covers.

- ARC models floor covering over STR slab structural elements.

- Technical disciplines (HVAC, PLUM, ELEC) use the model from ARC+ structural covers and columns from
the STR model for their working drawings.

6 Communication / Collaboration

6.1 Location of model files and 2D documentation

6.1.1 Discipline models

Discipline models are placed under «BIM\"Discipline name"\IFC» or «BIM\"Discipline

name"\Revit» and associated with the discipline folder (check the picture below) on the project server.
Trade models are stored in a proprietary format ( i.e: Rvt for ARK which uses Revit) and IFC files. The IFC
files are the basis for the multidisciplinary model. Exchange of other documents, preliminary drawings, and
working drawings see chapter 6.1.3

All subjects must send out updated IFC / proprietary files each Monday so that these can be compiled. IFC
files that have not been published on the project server by Tuesday at 08:00 will not be included in the final
compilation of the models.

6.1.2 Multidisciplinary model

The multidisciplinary model is available on the project server under «BIM\07 Multidisciplinary model\03
Navisworks» for Navisworks files and «BIM\07 Multidisciplinary model\02 Solibri» for Solibri files.

15
Document ID: ZQ40_RUWVGE7OGSLK79HYW

6.1.3 Documents, preliminary drawings, and working drawings

In each discipline folder i.e. «BIM\02 Architectural\05 Drawings», drawings are added in the pdf and Dwg
files. This applies to both drawings from the designers and from subcontractors. The folder structure for
each discipline is as follows:

01 Documents and Notes

02 Working drawings

03 Preliminary drawings (not for construction )

04 Drawing list

16
Document ID: ZQ40_RUWVGE7OGSLK79HYW

6.2 Exchange file formats

Communication between different disciplines will be performed with the use of models.

· Disciplines working in Revit deliver RVT files as a reference for the other disciplines.

· The IFC format is used for interdisciplinary control and delivery.

· For Architectural floor plans, PDF's and DWG's are published simultaneously

· For other Architectural drawings, DWG's are created as needed.

Models (and possibly DWGs) are uploaded to the model file folder under the correct discipline on the
project server.

When updating the files, both RVT and IFC must be updated, so that there is an agreement between the
models. DWG is generated as needed.

Drawings are delivered as PDF and follow a separate document plan for the project.

Currently used file format versions for all disciplines:

- .ifc version 2x3

- .rvt version 2020

17
Document ID: ZQ40_RUWVGE7OGSLK79HYW

- .dwg version 2018

- .bcf version 2.0

As a general rule, we require that all BIM submissions be provided in two formats: the native format, which
depends on the tool selected by the author of the information, and the IFC format.

We do not mandate the use of any specific software tool; however, any software proposed for use on our
projects must be agreed and added to the software table in this Plan prior to use. Sharing intended
technology formats early will help our teams achieve maximum interoperability for everyone.

6.3 BIM related meetings - Team Engagement

Building Information Modelling is a collaborative effort, requiring input from many stakeholders. As such it
is essential that the teams involved on a project meet at various stages to ensure BIM is implemented
smoothly and data is structured in a way that it can be easily read and utilized at all proposed stages of the
project.

The administration relative to dates of any BIM-related meetings will be undertaken by the BIM
Coordinator. It is the named Discipline Leaders responsibility to ensure the attendance of these meetings is
covered by capable individuals who are able to have authority to make decisions relative to the purpose of
that meeting.

6.3.1 BIM KICKOFF MEETING

When a BIM Coordinator is appointed it is essential to host a BIM kick-off meeting, the BIM Coordinator will
introduce himself and his team to the rest of the project team members, discuss the BEP and outline
the BIM Strategy on the project. This meeting can also be used to highlight any concerns team members
may have with the protocols highlighted in the BEP.

BIM Kick-off meeting date: 25.05.2021

6.3.2 BIM STRATEGY MEETING

At various stages of the project development, project stakeholders will be invited to BIM strategy meetings
and assess if the project is on track for achieving its goals outlined in the BEP. The frequency of these
meetings is entirely dependent on the project program. An outline of expected dates for BIM strategy
meetings has been outlined below:

BIM Strategy Meeting Date: Refer to milestones.

18
Document ID: ZQ40_RUWVGE7OGSLK79HYW

6.3.3 BIM COORDINATION MEETINGS

There is also a requirement to hold regular BIM Coordination meetings. Prior to the BIM Coordination
meetings, the BIM Coordinator will have prepared a report of the clash instances and model errors found in
the federated model, the team will discuss and resolve these issues as a team. The frequency of these
meetings will depend on the stage of the project and will be dependent on the project program.

BIM Coordination Meeting Date: Refer to the BIM Coordination Strategy schedule.

6.3.4 BIM EXCHANGE

Building information models should be exchanged between project team members at regular intervals to
ensure coordination, it is suggested that work in progress models are uploaded to the project server on a
weekly basis.

7.3 Use of Status Codes

7.3.1 Overview

Through the design development phase, all disciplines will use status code marking of all objects in the
BIM model. The specified status code should reflect the level of development of the given object and its
readiness for the coordination process.

In this way, it is made clear to other disciplines how mature the model elements are.

Object status code can be read both from the Revit (or another modeling tool) model and the IFC model. In
the multidisciplinary model, the BIM coordinator creates a specific classification which colors model object
according to object status codes.

7.3.2 Types of Status Codes

7.4 Coordination Checklists

7.4.1 Overview

BIM Coordinator, as one of the people responsible for creating this manual, is also responsible for ensuring
the correct implementation of BEP and controlling the quality of the created models.

Checklists are exactly one of the tools which help BIM Cooridnator standardize the performance of
repetitive activities and verify the content of BIM models at a specific stage of project development. A
checklist is nothing but a list of activities that must be performed at the appropriate time in the
coordination process to ensure the model quality.

On this project will be used 2 types of coordination checklists. One for each discipline BIM specialist and
another one for BIM Coordinator.

1. Discipline Checklist will be used when model elements will go through an Internal Coordination process
to achieve the SC-30 - Ready for Coordination status code

2. BIM Coordinator Checklist will be used when model elements will go through a Multidisciplinary
Coordination process to achieve the SC-35 - Approved - Multidisciplinary Coordination status code

7.4.2. Checklists storage location

All checklists related to the BIM Coordination process can be found in the following folder:

«BIM\07 Multidisciplinary model\01 BIM Coordination\02. Checklists»

7.4.3 Example of a discipline checklist activities

7.5 Multidisciplinary Coordination Process

7.5.1 Multidisciplinary Coordination - 10 Steps

24
Document ID: ZQ40_RUWVGE7OGSLK79HYW

Good cooperation between the design team and the project coordination team plays a crucial role in the
multidisciplinary coordination process.

This process consists of 10 steps performed in a certain sequence. The chronology of these activities
is critical because each subsequent step is a result of the previous one.

Such coordination it’s an iterative process, so the project team repeats activities in a particular time
interval.

It is worth mentioning that at this stage discipline models have already been internally
coordinated and received the SC-30 status (see point 7.3), which means that they are ready for
multidisciplinary coordination.

Step 1. Kick-off meeting

During such a meeting BIM coordinators invite different project stakeholders. It might be design team
leaders, BIM Modelers, project managers, or other individuals who might be involved in the BIM quality
assurance process.

During a meeting, the Coordinator explains to each of the discipline teams what their tasks are in this
process - in a word, what they need to do to provide smooth coordination.

Step 2. IFC delivery for the coordination start

Each trade is required to provide an up-to-date IFC file of their model and save it in a predetermined
location on the project server - BIM\07 Multidisciplinary model\01 BIM Coordination\03. IFC models for
check.

25
Document ID: ZQ40_RUWVGE7OGSLK79HYW

Step 3. Model Check

Once the IFC models of all trades have been delivered, the BIM Coordinator proceeds with the model
check. Model check is performed in Solibi Office (Workflow nr 1) or Navisworks Manage 2020
(Workflow nr 2).

Step 4. Assigning issues to responsible parties - Bim Coordinator checks each issue found during model
check and assigns it to the person responsible for solving it.

Step 5.Upload coordination model and sending BCF report.

The BIM coordinator provides a model from the coordination program for review by other trades. The
storage location for this model is:

\BIM\07 Multidisciplinary model\01 BIM Coordination\04. Review model

26
Document ID: ZQ40_RUWVGE7OGSLK79HYW

The BIM Coordinator also creates a report of all issues and sends it in BCF format to the Issue Manager BIM
Collab (Workflow nr 1) or BIM Track (Workflow nr 2).

Step 6. Resolving time

All disciplines resolve issues identified by the BIM Coordinator. It’s the time of mobilization, which requires
cooperation between project teams and dialogue to solve model issues as fast as possible.

Step 7. IFC delivery and status change

Each discipline exports a new updated IFC file of its model, along with any changes applied. The storage
location is:

\BIM\07 Multidisciplinary model\01 BIM Coordination\03. IFC models for check

27
Document ID: ZQ40_RUWVGE7OGSLK79HYW

In this step, trades solved all the issues found in their models and changed the status of issues to
“Resolved” in the Issue Manager system.

Step 8. Closing issues

The BIM Coordinator checks again if all issues have been corrected and set their status to "Closed".

If any items still need improvement, the status is changed to "Active", and they return to step 6. Trades
responsible for mentioned issue need to resolve i in order to proceed further in the process.

Step 9. Changing of Status Code

If we resolved the issues, all BIM objects from a given model change their status code from SC 30 - ready
for multidisciplinary control to SC 35 - Approved (see point 7.3 )

Step 10. Summary meeting

BIM Coordinator organizes a follow-up meeting. All the trades are gathered together to summarize and
discuss the whole coordination process.

Each software version change should be discussed in advance with the BIM Coordinator and the rest of the
BIM team. When upgrading versions, there may occur incompatibility problems, which may cause
downtimes in the project of development.

8.1.1 SOLIBRI

Solibri will be used as a review and coordination tool. Two versions of Solibri are relevant in this project:

- In Solibri Office (SO) we review BIM models and validate the information contained in each model
element for a different trade. SO is based on IFC files, but can also read 3D dwg files from the CAD tools
that cannot create IFC files.

30
Document ID: ZQ40_RUWVGE7OGSLK79HYW

SO can run collision checks based on predefined rules, create presentations, issue reports for coordination,
and takeoff vital information from the model.

- Solibri Anywhere (SA) is a free browsing tool for viewing IFC files and SMC (Solibri file format) files.

SA can show what we have created in SO (also collision control and presentations). SA can read everything
created in SO, but cannot compile multiple IFC files, run the actual collision check, create the actual
presentations as well as create reports.

The Solibri files are generally much smaller in size than both RVT, DWG, and IFC and you do not need
very powerful PCs to read these files.

9 Model Structure and Coordinates

9.1 Model Naming

IFC discipline models for design and construction on the Ulleval School project will all be named according
to the rules that are described below. The file name defines the location, building, level, and discipline
which the model represents. The components of the file name are separated by an underscore to enable
digital recognition of the parts of the file name.

FILE NAMES FOR MODELS SHOULD BE FORMATTED AS:

NQT_PROJECT NUMBER_BUILDING NUMBER_DISCIPLINE.FILE FORMAT (example:

9.2 Model Structure

9.2.1 General Rules

Due to the size of the project, it may be necessary to divide the building into several model files per
discipline. By default, each discipline starts by having the entire discipline elements gathered in ONE
model and continuously assesses the need for a model division

9.2.2. Coordination Zones

Only for coordination purposes building was divided into 3 zones: A, B, C. Division looks as follows:

Document ID: ZQ40_RUWVGE7OGSLK79HYW

9.3 Axis

Axis is defined in the ARC model and is also available in DWG format in the following folder on the project
server:

\BIM\00 Common data\Axis

Project axis are as follows:

36
Document ID: ZQ40_RUWVGE7OGSLK79HYW

9.4 Coordinate System

All models must be correctly placed in the project's axis system and correctly placed in the correct north
direction in Euref 89 NTM zone 10 (Norwegian Coordinate System).

All model files in the project must ALWAYS operate with the same origin (x, y, z) and the same twist in
relation to the North.

The current national vertical reference system is NN2000

37
Document ID: ZQ40_RUWVGE7OGSLK79HYW

The Euref NTM coordinate in Project's Origin point is:

N: 11723621 mm

E: 114510388 mm

The relation between the model rotation and the map coordinate system is 57 °

Elevation of 6500 mm reflects the transition from Oslo local system to NN2000.

9.5 Control of IFC positioning

To easily check that the IFC models have the same insertion point all models must be equipped with a
cylinder segment "circle piece" with the bottom of the tip in 0,0,0, Plan 1 (Entry Level 0), and with mutual
placement, as shown in the figure below.

38
Document ID: ZQ40_RUWVGE7OGSLK79HYW

All disciplines create their part of the figure themselves as an object in their own discipline models.

For Architectural model:

39
Document ID: ZQ40_RUWVGE7OGSLK79HYW

The object must be located in -10 000 mm, -10 000 mm from the axis crossing J and 1

10 Drawing Standards

10.1 Drawing Division

Drawings in the project for each discipline have the following scale:

• ARC - 1: 100

• STR - 1:50

• HVAC 1: 50/1: 100

• ELEC 1:50

• PLUM 1:50

For the drawing format A1, 1: 100 is used

For the drawing format A0, 1:50 is used

For 1:50 drawings, the following division is used.

11 Design Deliveries

11.1 BIM Properties

Overview

This section describes BIM design deliveries that will add to the total delivery. It specifies which object
types to be delivered, their properties, and necessary information to deliver design BIM according to
the total requirements.

In this context, the BIM is the interdisciplinary, coordinated digital model that results from the design and
construction process. The requirements apply to the design team, subcontractors, and product & system
vendors which by contract is required to deliver BIM or BIM objects.

This specification is a living document describing the delivery requirements. The requirements can
be changed if it supports the purpose of the project and is commonly accepted between the project
parties.

IFC Classification

All elements in the model should be exported to appropriate IFC Classes. It means that e.g

- Wall elements in the IFC file have class IfcWall,

- Electric distribution box elements have class IfcElectricDistibutionPoint and so on.

For more detailed information about IFC 2x3 classification please visit -

Definition - Property Sets

Properties in the IFC model are collected in sets of properties (property sets or Psets). In principle, the
name of properties should be unique so that how they are collected in property sets has no significance.
Property sets from the IFC standard bear the prefix Pset_. Property sets that collect requirements should
have the prefix Req_ for the requirement.

Naming rules for object properties

All objects while having status code SC-20 (check section 7.3) must at least have information about the
type and instance name. This makes it possible to list objects and sort information by object type. All
objects with the same properties must have the same object type name. All objects with different
properties must have different object type names.

Each discipline must define rules for how they specify the object type name. These rules should be applied
consistently.
Object types shall have the same name for all identical object types. If a defining property changes for an
object the object type changes. It shall be possible to distinguish different object types clearly from one
another.

Properties for status codes

Designers and subcontractors shall provide status codes as part of the BIM quality assurance,

49
Document ID: ZQ40_RUWVGE7OGSLK79HYW

procurement, and handover process.

Status Codes can be assigned per object or per entire model part depending on how the quality assurance
process is performed. It is important that working with status codes creates value without requiring
substantial resources.

For detailed information about status codes please check section 7.3 of this document

*Pset_XxxCommon: Xxx = object types f.ex. wall Pset_WallCommon

**Use of IsExternal

• IsExternal: FALSE, only to be used on objects inside of the building envelope.

• IsExternal: TRUE, only to be used on objects that are part of the building envelope.
• IsExternal: Not defined, to be used on objects that are not included in the two above-mentioned
categories. It applies to objects located outside the buildings such as balconies, landscape elements,

50
Document ID: ZQ40_RUWVGE7OGSLK79HYW

etc. The reason for this rule is that energy analysis tools use the building envelope (IsExternal: TRUE)
as the basis for the analysis.
