Q.27 A Plate girder subjected to maximum factored momet 4000 KN-m and a
factored shear force 600KN. Find the preliminary sections for the
following condition and cross-sections.
a) Girder without any stiffener.
b) Girder with end bearing stiffener.
c) Girded with end bearing as well as intermediate transverse stiffener.
Q.28 A simply supported welded plate girder of span 24m is subjected to UDL
30 KN/m on whole span excluding self weight of plate girder. Design
cross section of plate girder and check for shear buckling of web and shear
capacity of end panels. Assume compression flange is laterally supported
throughout the span and the yield stress of steel is Fy = 250 MPa.

Q.29 A simply supported welded plate girder of span 12m is subjected to dead
load of 15 KN/m and live load of 30 KN/m. It is also subjected to two
point load of 500KN and 400 KN at 4m from either support. The
compression flange is laterally supported throughout the span. Assuming

Yield stress as 250 N/mm2 for steel sections. Assume suitable type of
roof truss and calculate.
i) Dead load and live load per panel point assuming sheeting material
ii) Find the forces in bottom chord and rafter and design it using double angle and show
the design details.
