Value Stream Mapping Recap
Value Stream Mapping Recap
The To conduct value stream mapping you must separate activities into value added or non-
value added activities from the customer’s perspective.
The first step in conducting value stream mapping is to construct a current state diagram,
which shows the steps in the process and whether each is value added or non-value added.
From there, you can decide which non-value added steps you will prioritize for reducing the
time spent on those activities.
Once you have proposals for reducing waste in the process, the second step in conducting
value stream mapping is to construct a future state diagram.
To learn more about ways of eliminating waste, see the ‘Lean Manufacturing 1: Eliminating
Waste’ eLearning course.
The final step is to create a transformation roadmap, which is a plan for how you will
implement the improvements you have identified.
Value stream mapping can be used to improve both high level manufacturing processes and
individual processes.
