LUCIDA

HANDWRITING

Purvi Anand
Lucida Handwriting
Lucida Handwriting Characteristics: A modern
interpretation of a cursive blackletter style used for printing
in the 15th and 16th centuries. Uses: Use for signs, posters,
menus, or any time you want a font with an antique look.
Guidelines Use enough line spacing so that ascenders and
descenders do not collide.

What is the Lucida font style?

The Lucida fonts have a large x-height (tall lower-case

letters), open apertures and quite widely spaced letters, classic
features of fonts designed for legibility in body text. Capital
letters were designed to be somewhat narrow and short in
order to make all-caps acronyms blend in.

LUCIDA (seriffed) original designed in three weights: roman,

italic, and bold. First shown in a specimen book printed on a
300 dpi laser printer by the Imagen Corporation and
distributed at the ATypI (Association Typographique
Internationale) conference in London, England, September
1984. Script font developed from Chancery cursive. Very easy
to read.

Uses: Announcements, invitations, greetings, menus,

placards, information labels, posters, heads, titles, text
paragraphs, and personal notes and memos.

The Milkmaid and Her Pail

There was a milkmaid by the name of Patty.

She milked her cow, picked up two pails of
milk with a stick, and went to the market to
sell it. She started daydreaming about what
she would do with the money she would
receive for the milk while she was making her
way to the market. She imagined purchasing
a hen and earning money from selling its
eggs.
She imagined spending the cash she would
earn from selling the eggs and milk on a cake,
a basket of strawberries, a fancy dress, and
maybe even a brand-new home! She became so
excited that she started to skip without
thinking about the pails she was carrying.
When she examined her pails, she found that
they were empty and that the milk had
started to spill.
Moral:
Before the eggs hatch, don't count your
chickens! It's critical to concentrate on the
means of accomplishment rather than success
itself.
