Q What is a computer software. Computer software refers to a set of instructions, programs, or data
used to operate computers and execute specific tasks. A set of computer program that makes computer
usable is also called computer software. Software acts as an interface between the user and rest
computer system. Software can be classified in many ways, Primary software can categories are System
software, Application software and utility software. Software that are used to solve specific user
problem called Application software or end user software/Program. Depending on the work for which it
was designed, applications software can manipulate text, numbers, graphs or combinations of these
elements some example of applications software are MS Word, MS Excel, Adobe Photoshop, Library
management systems etc. Utility software refers to a type of system software designed to help manage,
maintain, optimize, and support the operation of a computer system. It provides tools and utilities that
assist in performing various tasks to ensure the smooth functioning of both hardware and software
components. Utility software serves to enhance/Boost system performance, improve efficiency, and
streamline various processes. Utility software plays a vital role in maintaining the health, security, and
efficiency of computer systems. Users often utilize a combination of utility software to keep their
systems optimized, protected, and running smoothly, these software are used to perform tasks such as
sorting records, Locating files, managing memory usage and so on. Disk fragmentations, Disk cleaner,
antiviruses’ software, Disk space analyzer, Scandisk, System Diagnostic Tools, Firewall Software etc The
class of computer software that act as an intermediary between computer hardware and applications
program are called system software. System software are responsible for accessing computer hardware
and providing required resources and service to applications software. Actually, application software
runs on the top of system software. It manages the hardware resources of a computer system, provides
essential services to software, and enables users to interact with the computer.
