Title of the Project:

UNet: An Environmental Intelligence Project

Project Summary:

"UNet" is a Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL) based platform designed to assist farmers
by providing intelligent recommendations regarding crop selection, fertilizer use, and plant disease
prediction. The platform aims to utilize the power of data science and AI to improve agricultural
practices, ensuring higher yields, better crop health, and efficient resource utilization.

Main Features:

1. Crop Recommendation System:

The system analyzes soil data provided by the user and uses ML algorithms to recommend
the most suitable crops for cultivation. The model evaluates factors such as soil pH, moisture
content, nutrient levels, and climate to suggest optimal crops that will thrive under those
conditions.

2. Fertilizer Recommendation System:

Based on the soil data and the type of crop being grown, the system can recommend the
best fertilizers. It identifies soil deficiencies or excesses and suggests appropriate fertilizer
types to enhance soil health and improve crop yield.

3. Plant Disease Prediction System:

The system allows users to upload images of diseased plant leaves. Using image recognition
and classification algorithms, the system predicts the disease and provides suggestions for
treatment. This helps in early diagnosis, reducing the spread of diseases, and improving the
overall health of crops.

Technical Details of the Project:

Hardware Requirements:

• CPU: Intel Core i5 8th generation or above, for high performance in processing.

• Operating System: Linux/Windows/MacOS to support software tools.

• GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 130 or AMD Radeon 530 for accelerated deep learning model
training.

• RAM: At least 8GB of RAM for smooth operation.

• Storage: Minimum of 1TB HDD/SSD for storing datasets, models, and training results.

Software Requirements:

• Developer Tools:

o VS Code: For coding and integration of various modules.

o Jupyter Notebook: For data exploration, analysis, and running ML algorithms.

o Anaconda Navigator: To manage Python libraries and environments.

o Google Colab: For cloud-based computation and collaboration on ML models.

• Client Requirements:

o A modern web browser for accessing the application.

Origin of the Proposal:

Agriculture is a major economic driver in many countries, including India, where a large part of the
population depends on farming for their livelihood. However, challenges such as unpredictable
weather patterns, soil degradation, pests, and diseases have made it difficult for farmers to optimize
their farming practices. By leveraging AI and ML technologies, the project aims to make farming
more precise, efficient, and productive.

Problem Definition:

Agriculture faces multiple challenges such as:

• Uncertainty about the best crops to plant due to varying soil conditions and weather
patterns.

• Inefficient use of fertilizers leading to poor soil quality.

• Late detection of plant diseases, which can lead to widespread crop loss.

By using AI to address these challenges, the project aims to improve crop yields, minimize resource
waste, and help farmers make data-driven decisions.

Objectives of the Project:

• To develop a smart system that provides personalized crop recommendations based on soil
data.

• To create a fertilizer recommendation system that can suggest improvements to optimize soil
health.

• To implement a plant disease prediction tool that uses image recognition to identify diseases
and recommend remedies.

Work Plan:

The project will follow a phased development approach:

1. Project Setup and Planning (Week 1):

o Define project scope, objectives, and deliverables.

o Set up development environments and tools.

2. Data Collection and Labeling (Week 2-3):

o Gather soil data, crop information, and disease images.

o Label the datasets and ensure data quality for model training.

3. Model Exploration (Week 4-5):

o Explore different ML and DL algorithms for crop recommendation, fertilizer

prediction, and disease classification.
o Choose the best-performing models.

4. Model Refinement (Week 6):

o Train the models and tune hyperparameters for better accuracy.

o Implement ensemble techniques to improve model predictions.

5. Testing and Evaluation (Week 7):

o Test the models on unseen data to evaluate performance.

o Refine models based on testing feedback.

6. Frontend and Backend Development (Week 8-10):

o Develop the user interface (UI) and integrate it with the backend using APIs.

o Ensure that the system is responsive and user-friendly.

7. Model Deployment and Maintenance (Week 11-12):

o Deploy the models on a cloud platform for real-time use.

o Set up monitoring and feedback systems to refine models over time.

Team Role:

The project team will consist of the following roles:

• ML Developer: Focuses on training and optimizing the machine learning and deep learning
models for crop recommendation, fertilizer suggestion, and disease prediction.

• Frontend Developer: Responsible for designing and building the user interface of the
website, ensuring an intuitive and responsive design.

• Backend Developer: Handles server-side logic, database management, and integrates

machine learning models with the frontend.

• Data Scientist/Manager: Collects, processes, and labels datasets for training the models,
ensuring the data is accurate and relevant.

Methodology:

The development process will involve:

1. Strategy: Identifying the problem and mapping it to AI-based solutions.

2. Data Preparation:

o Collecting data from reliable sources (e.g., soil data, crop types, disease images).

o Cleaning and preprocessing the data to make it ready for training.

3. Modeling:

o Selecting appropriate machine learning and deep learning models.

o Training models on the prepared datasets.

o Evaluating models using performance metrics such as accuracy and F1-score.

4. Integration: Combining the machine learning models with the frontend and backend systems
to provide a seamless user experience.

5. Deployment: Hosting the solution on a cloud platform like AWS or Heroku for easy access
and scalability.

Time Schedule:

• Frontend Development: 1 Month

• Backend Development: 2 Months

• Testing: 15 Days

• Deployment: 10 Days

Proposed Outcome/Findings:

1. A reliable crop recommendation system based on soil data.

2. Fertilizer suggestions that improve soil quality and enhance crop growth.

3. A plant disease prediction system using image recognition that helps detect diseases early,
preventing large-scale crop damage.

Utilization of the Outcome:

• Farmers: Can use the platform to make data-driven decisions on what crops to grow, how to
treat diseases, and what fertilizers to apply, which will ultimately lead to better crop health
and higher yields.

• Agricultural Researchers: Will benefit from data insights generated by the platform for
further studies and innovations in farming.
