Course objectives:
● To understand the concept of operational amplifier and its applications
● To study the concept of ADC, DAC and timers.
● To understand the digital circuits using simplified Boolean functions
● To analyse combinational digital circuits using logic gates
● To learn the analysis and design procedures of sequential circuits.
UNIT 1 OPERATIONAL AMPLIFIER AND ITS APPLICATIONS 9
Operational amplifier –Ideal characteristics, Performance Parameters, voltage follower, Inverting amplifier, Non-
inverting Amplifiers, Differentiator, Integrator, Comparator, Voltage to Current converter, Instrumentation
amplifier, Low pass, High pass filter, band pass and band reject filters, Schmitt trigger, Triangular wave generator.
UNIT 2 ADC, DAC AND TIMERS 9
Analog switches, High speed sample and hold circuit and IC‘s, Types of D/A converter -Weighted resistor, R-
2R ladder DAC, D/A Accuracy and Resolution. A/D converter - Flash, Dual slope, Successive approximation, A/D
Accuracy and Resolution; overview of IC 555 timer - Multivibrators.
UNIT 3 BOOLEAN ALGEBRA AND LOGIC GATES 9
Boolean theorems, Logic gates, Universal gates, Sum of products and product of sums, Minterms and
Maxterms, Karnaugh map and Tabulation methods. Logic families- TTL, MOS, CMOS
UNIT 4 COMBINATIONAL LOGIC CIRCUITS 9
Problem formulation and design of combinational circuits - Code Converters -Binary to Gray, Gray to Binary,
BCD to Excess3, Half and Full Adders, BCD adder, Magnitude Comparator, Decoder, Encoder, Multiplexer,
Demultiplexer.
UNIT 5 SEQUENTIAL LOGIC CIRCUITS 9
Flip flops – SR, JK, T, D, Master/Slave FF, Triggering of FF, Analysis and design of clocked sequential circuits –
state minimization, state assignment, circuit implementation. Counters, Ripple Counters, Ring Counters. Types of
Registers, Serial In - Serial Out, Serial In - Parallel out, Parallel In -Serial Out, Parallel In - Parallel Out.

Course outcome(s):
CO1 Analyse the closed and open loop operations of operational amplifiers and its application.
CO2 Explain the concepts of ADC, DAC and timers.
CO3 Simplify Boolean functions using K-Map in digital systems
CO4 Analyse and design combinational logic Circuits
CO5 Analysis and design sequential circuits .
