Answer ALL the Questions

1. A lot of integrated circuit chips consists of 10 good, 4 with minor


defects and 2 with major defects. Two chips are randomly chosen
from the lot. What is the probability that at least one ship is
good? (CO1)

2. I P(A) = 0.4, P(B) = 0.7 and P(A  B) = 0.3, find the probability
that neither A nor B occurs. (CO1)

3. A pair of dice is thrown 4 times. If getting a doublet is considered


as a success, find the probability of 2 successes. (CO2)

4. X is uniformly distributed with mean 1 and variance (4/3), find


P(X < 0). (CO2)

5. If two random variables X and Y have probability function

6. For the following bivariate probability distribution of X and Y,

8. If y = 2x + 5 is the best fit for 8 pairs of values of (x, y) by the


method of least squares, and y = 120, then find x. (CO4)

9. What are the assumptions involved in ANOVA? (CO5)

10. The total number of defects in 15 pieces of cloth of equal length


is 90. Find the values of UCL and LCL for C chart. (CO5)

11. (a) A bag contains 5 red and 3 green balls and a second bag 4 red
and 5 green balls. One of the bags is selected at random and a
draw of 2 balls is made from it. What is the probability that one
of them is red and the other is green? (CO1)

12. (a) A company has two plants to manufacture scooters. Plant I
manufacture 70 percent of the scooters and plant II manufactures
30 percent. At plant I, 80 out of 100 scooters are rated standard
quality and at plant II, only 90 out of 100 scooters are rated
standard quality. A scooter is picked up random and is found to
be of standard quality. What is the chance that it has come from
plant I, or plant II?

(b) Let X be a random variable such that P(X = -2) = P(X = -1) =
P(X = 1) = P(X = 2) and P(X < 0) = P(X = 0) = P(X > 0).
Determine the probability mass function and the distribution
function of X. (CO1)

13. (a) Messages arrive at a switch board I a Poisson manner a an


average rate of six per hour. Find the probability for each of the
following events.
(i) Exactly two messages arrive within one hour.
(ii) No message arrives within one hour
(iii) At least three messages arrive within one hour.

(b) The time in hours required to repair a machine is

14. (a) In a large consignment of electric bulbs 10% are defective. A

that (i) All are good bulbs (ii) Atmost there are 3 defective bulbs
(iii) Exactly there are 3 defective bulbs.

(b) In a normal distribution, 31% of the items are under 45 and


8% are over 64. Find the mean and variance of the distribution.
