Assignment 10

1. A current I = I0 sin ωt flows through a long solenoid with n = 1000 turns/m. What
would be the magnetic flux and the emf induced on a squared loop of side a located
inside the solenoid when the normal vector to the loop makes and angle of a) 00 , b)
450 and c) 900 with the solenoid axis?

2. A given magnetic field variates at a rate of 85 T/s and makes an angle of 300 with
the axis of a circular coil with radius R = 4 cm and 300 turns. What is the emf
induced on the coil?

3. What should be the time variation of the magnetic field in a plane perpendicular to
a coil with 80 turns, R = 5 cm and a resistance of 30 Ω to induce a current of 4 A?

4. A uniform magnetic field B, perpendicular to the XY plane, is only non-negligible

in a circular region of radius R. What would be the induced electric field in the XY
plane for r < R and r > R if the time variation of the magnetic field is dB/dt?

5. A small coil of surface S, N turns and electric resistance R is immersed in an uniform

magnetic field B with its axis at right angles to it. What would be the charge flowing
through it when it swings 1800 around its diameter?

6. A rectangular coil of 80 turns, a = 20 cm of length, b = 30 cm width and a resistance

R = 30 Ω is placed with it’s plane perpendicular to a magnetic field of B = 0,8 T.
If only half of the coil, b/2, is inside the magnetic field region, what would be the
direction and magnitude of the induced current when the coils moves at a speed
v = 2 m/s: a) to the right, b) upwards, and c) downwards.?

7. If the magnetic field in the system of the second figure is B = 0,6 T, the speed
is v = 8 m/s, the bar length is ` = 15 cm, the resistance is R = 25 Ω and the
dissipation is negligible, calculate: a) the emf induced in the circuit, b) the current
intensity, c) the force needed to move the bar and d) the power dissipated.

8. If the bar of the previous problem has mass m and the force acting on it was removed
at time t = 0 when was moving at speed v0 what would be the speed of the bar as
a function of time?
9. Determine the emf and the magnetic flux through a loop of radius R placed in a
uniform magnetic field when it rotates with angular speed ω around one diameter
if the axis is: a) perpendicular to B and b) parallel to B
