Course Description
In this course, students are introduced to the fundamentals of environmental systems and
transformation processes. This course contains Quantities and Units; Environmental Systems and
Transformation Processes; Environmental Chemistry and Microbiology, Material Balance
Relationships and Reactor Concepts; Mathematics of Growth, Water Quality Parameters and
Standards; Contaminant Transport Processes; Water Treatment Units and Design; Air Pollution;
Global Environmental Issues; and Introduction to Environmental Impact Assessment
Course Objectives
This course is designed to
Recalls basics of chemistry, biochemistry and mathematics to engineered systems as well as to
the modeling and management of natural water bodies.
Introduce students with an up-to-date knowledge of water quality as applied to schemes of
water control systems.
Illustrate introductory but important concepts of environmental and water engineering design
and management

Course Policies
Attendance It is compulsory for students to attend at least 85% of the whole time
allocated to the course. More than four (4) unjustified absences will make
you ineligible to attend the final exam
Assignments Students are expected to submit their assignments in a timely manner
Late Submission Late submission may be subjected to a decrease in the grade that is
proportional to the delayed days
Exams Exams are closed books. students who didn't attend the midterm exam due
to exceptional situation will be given a makeup exam
Plagiarism Students caught cheating will be awarded a 0.0 in the exam and may be
subjected to university disciplinary actions
Disability Students with disability need to approach the course instructor so that
commodities will be put in place to assist them
