B-787 Takeoff Events

The document outlines the critical takeoff events and parameters for the B-787 aircraft, detailing specific speeds and corresponding system behaviors during the takeoff phase. Key milestones include the activation of thrust settings, the effectiveness of control surfaces, and the inhibition of warnings at various speeds. Important thresholds such as V1 and the associated warnings are also highlighted to ensure safe takeoff operations.

Takeoff Events
September 19, 2009

00 – Takeoff Position. When the airplane heading is LESS than 45 degrees from
the runway heading and is near the Centerline, the Ground Reference and
Guidance Cues and the Localizer Deviation Pointer display on the HUD.

00 – With either Thrust Lever in the Takeoff Range, WX Radar begins scanning
for PWS, and the Center Demand HYD Pumps operate.

30 – At 30 knots Groundspeed, Manual Rudder Trim inputs are zeroed, and

Manual Trim is inhibited until the airplane is airborne, and the Ground Speed
on the PFD changes from LARGE font to small.

40 – At 40 knots the flight control surfaces UNLOCK if locked. (9.20.3)

45 – At 45 knots Taxi Brake Release is inhibited.

50 – The Ground Deceleration scale is displayed on the HUD if deceleration is

sensed above 50 knots – Removed at 25 knots. (10.12.25, 10.22.7)

50 – TOGA must be selected or not available until 400’.

60 – At approximately 60 knots, the rudder becomes aerodynamically effective.

60 – Roll/Yaw Assymetry attempts to maintain zero yaw rate for any condition
including engine failure.

65 – The Time Critical Warning “ENG FAIL” message on the PFD is active from
65 knots through 6 knots BELOW V1.

65 – At 65 knots the TOGA Pitch Reference Line is displayed on the HUD.

75 – At 75 knots Automatic Ice Detection becomes available. Inhibited <75 knots.

80 – At 80 knots:
 Takeoff Thrust must be set.
 Auto Wing Anti-Ice becomes available.
 Entry Door Handles are LOCKED.
 If the Flight Director switches are OFF & TOGA is pushed, the Flight
Director displays.
 Rejected Takeoff requirements change.
 The Engine Oil Pressure Caution Band (Amber) display is removed. (GE)
 The Master Caution is inhibited.
 Advisory Messages are inhibited.
 PWS Cautions are inhibited.

85 – At 85 knots:
 RTO becomes active.
 Spoilers extend when BOTH Thrust Levers are moved to IDLE.
 “SPEEDBRAKE” EICAS message displays on the PFD, if the Speedbrake
Lever is LESS than 35 degrees and both Thrust Levers are NOT in the
Takeoff Range for one (1) second.

100 – At 100 knots:

 New PWS Warnings are inhibited.
 TAS and Wind Direction, Speed and the Wind Arrow are displayed on the
PFD.

V1 – 6 knots – The Time Critical Warning “ENG FAIL” message on the PFD is
active from 65 knots through V1 – 6 knots BELOW V1.

V1 – At V1:
 Master Warning is inhibited.
 New CONFIG warnings are inhibited.
