1.1 Project background

Write your background here.

The project background should be discussed in this section. Detailed information

relating to the project environment and context as well as the value-add of the
project should be stated.

The contextual information about the industry and challenges being faced are given
in this section. In general, challenges will always lead to loss of revenue. It is
important to reflect and tell a good story. If the project being proposed is an

innovation, it is also important to relate a possible increase in revenue to the current
status.

Project outline should be stated clearly, and the role of the student in the project
should be specified. The problem statement should define the extent of the current
problem.

What is the current problem which indicates the necessity for this project.

1.2 Engineering problem definition

Provide a detailed description of the engineering problem that you address in your
project.

1.3 Aims and Objectives

The objective of the project should be stated in this section. These objectives must
be provided in the format of a list.

There should be one general aim starting with the word “To”

Objectives must be specific, achievable relevant and time -bound.

1.4 Relevant modules

In the industrial project that you select, you should use theoretical knowledge
obtained in one or more modules of your national diploma or advanced diploma. In
this section you must include the list of those modules.

1.5 System performance indices (User requirements specification)

A full description of the final product should be given. The specifications should be
described in detail.

1.6 Delimitation
You cannot solve all the world problems. State what you will only concentrate on, or
what you will not look into.

1.7 Significance of studies

In this section, the importance of the project should be given. Explain how the project
will benefit the industry, society e.t.c.

Why is it important to conduct this project?

1.8 Report outline

Give a brief description of the report outline in this section.

2 Review of relevant literature
What has been done about the problem by other people?

In this section the literature that was consulted is mentioned. The student should not
just list reference material; the theory contained therein should be stated with
regards to how it applies to the selected project. Refer to study unit 5 for more
information.

You are required to use the IEEE referencing style. This guide has been uploaded
under additional resources, in the module site.

Discuss various research work, investigations, or studies that have been conducted
by various people in this field and related ones. Highlight the merit and demerits of
various techniques that have been used to solve the problem or related ones. What
are the gaps in previous research.

It is important that various solutions based on sound engineering principles should

be proposed. Their merits and demerits should be discussed adequately in this
section.

2.1 Heading 2
Below I give an example of how you can use this template to insert numbered
equations.

Ohms law:

3 Proposed Solutions
The theoretical framework and body of knowledge require in solving the problem or
challenges are given in this section. Diagrams and equations that explain principles
of operation should be discussed in this section.

3.1 Possible options

The possible solutions to address your problem should be listed in this section. A
high-level description of each solution should be stated. The student should limit the
possible solutions to a maximum of four options.

3.2 Preferred option

In this section the preferred option is discussed. The reasons or justification for
selecting this option must be discussed.

6 Project Cost

6.1 Cost estimates

Put your cost estimate here.

You should read more about this on your own.

6.2 Costing information

In this section, the bill of material should be given. Other costing information, such as
Application software, Computer and man-hour cost should be given.
