Verb Infinitives:

An infinitive is the base form of a verb, usually preceded by "to." Examples: "to run," "to
eat," "to write."

 Infinitives can function as nouns, adjectives, or adverbs.

2. Prepositional Phrases:

A prepositional phrase consists of a preposition followed by a noun (or pronoun) that acts as
the object of the preposition.

 Example: "The book is on the table." ("on" is the preposition, "the table" is the
object).

3. Rhyme Scheme, Repetition, and Alliteration:

 Rhyme Scheme: Refers to the pattern of rhyming words in a poem. It's usually
represented by letters. For example, "ABAB" means the first and third lines rhyme,
and the second and fourth lines rhyme.
o Example: "The sky is blue (A), the grass is green (B), the sun shines bright
(A), the world serene (B)."
 Repetition: Repeating words, phrases, or structures to create emphasis or a particular

5. Adding Description with Present and Past Participles:

 Present Participles: Formed by adding "-ing" to a verb. They describe an ongoing

action or state.
o Example: "The running water."
 Past Participles: Often end in "-ed" (for regular verbs) or have irregular forms. They
describe a completed action or state.
o Example: "The broken window."
6. Suffix:

A suffix is a group of letters added to the end of a word to change its meaning or grammatical
function.

 Example: Adding "-ly" to "quick" gives "quickly" (adverb).

 Example: Adding "-ness" to "happy" gives "happiness" (noun).

7. Phrasal Verbs:

A phrasal verb is a combination of a verb and one or more particles (prepositions or adverbs)
that has a different meaning than the individual words.

 Example: "Look up" (to search for information).

8. Transitive and Intransitive Verbs:

 Transitive Verbs: Verbs that require a direct object to complete their meaning.
o Example: "She reads the book." ("reads" is transitive, "the book" is the object).
 Intransitive Verbs: Verbs that do not require a direct object.
o Example: "She sleeps." ("sleeps" is intransitive, there’s no object).

9. Using Semicolons to Connect Independent Clauses:

A semicolon connects two independent clauses that are closely related in meaning.

 Example: "I have a test tomorrow; I need to study tonight."

10. Noun Modification:

Noun modification refers to the use of other words (usually adjectives or nouns) to give more
detail or describe a noun.

 Example: "The old house." ("old" modifies "house").

 Example: "A computer science book." ("computer science" modifies "book").
