The October Revolution - The Bolsheviks Seize Power
On October 25, 1917 (November 7 by the modern calendar), the Bolsheviks launched a nearly
bloodless coup against the Provisional Government. Red Guards took control of key locations in
Petrograd, and the Winter Palace fell. Lenin declared a new Soviet government led by workers
and peasants. The revolution’s simplicity belied its historical magnitude: Russia’s first
communist regime was born.
