Q1. List and discuss the conventional and unconventional energy sources ? (3 mark)

Q2. Elaborate and discuss in detail the merits and demerits of Hydroelectric project? (3
mark)

Q3. With help of neat stetch discuss in brief the classification Hydroelectric plant based on
operational features? (4 mark)

Q4. Why basic and specific investigation of water resource is carried out in the planning
phase of Hydropower project? (2 mark)

Q5. Discuss in detail the basic design principles and limitations of surface power house
(SPH) and under ground power house (UGPH) ? (4 Mark)

PART TWO (2) : NUMERCAL PROBLEMS (10 %)

Q1. In an electrical district the following are some of the different kinds of demand : Domestic
demand= 3 Mw, Irrigation demand= 5 Mw , Water supply demand = 2 Mw, Indisturial demand= 32
Mw, office demand = 2 Mw and public utilities = 4Mw were determined . Calculate the required
installed capacity of the power station . Assume 15 % of loss and 25 % of capacity as reserve .
Assume diversity factor as =1.5 (5 mark)

Q2: A Hydro_ electric power station has a reservior of area 24 kilometer square and capacity of
5*10^6 cubic meter . The effective head of water is 100 m. The penstock, turbine , generation
efficiencies are 95 % , 90 %, and 85 % respectively.

(a) calculate the total electrical energy that can be generated from the station (2 mark)

(b) If a load of 15,000 kw has been supplied for 3 hrs, find the fall im the reservior (3 mark)
