To,

Head of department,
Department of Computer Science Engineering,
Subject – Formal Complaint Regarding Professional Misconduct and Irrelevant
Behavior by a Faculty Member.
Respected sir,
We, the students of B.Tech in Computer Science and
Engineering (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning), currently in our third
year, sixth semester, wish to bring to your attention a matter of serious concern
regarding the professional conduct and teaching practices of Ms. Kanchan Saini,
who is currently assigned to teach us the subjects Internet of Things (IoT) and
Speech and Natural Language Processing (NLP).
Over the course of this semester, Ms classroom behavior and teaching approach
have become increasingly problematic, and in many instances, distressing for the
students. A number of concerning issues have been observed consistently. Most
notably, she has repeatedly made taunting and demoralizing remarks,
suggesting that she may deliberately fail students in the upcoming university
examinations as a means of asserting control. This kind of threat-based
communication creates an atmosphere of fear and undermines the trust between
faculty and students.
In addition, Ms has shown visible emotional instability by crying in front of
students during lectures, which, while we empathize with, significantly affects
the learning environment. Her communication regarding the syllabus has also been
inconsistent. Initially, we were informed that only one unit would be covered in the
exam; however, it was later communicated verbally that two units might be
included instead, leaving students confused and uncertain about what to prepare.
Furthermore, there have been frequent instances where she attends class
solely to mark attendance and then leaves shortly after, without delivering
a proper lecture. On the few occasions when lectures are conducted, there is a
noticeable lack of clarity and coherence in the content presented. This is especially
concerning considering the importance of these core subjects in our curriculum.
We would also like to highlight a particularly distressing incident that occurred on
8th April 2025, during the mid-term examination for the subject Compiler
Design (First Shift). Ms. Saini, while invigilating, instructed students to submit
their answer sheets between 11:35 AM and 11:40 AM, well before the
scheduled end time. Many students, following her directive, submitted their papers
prematurely, leaving one or two questions unanswered. This incident caused
unnecessary academic disadvantage to a majority of students in the hall.
In light of the above, we respectfully request the department to kindly look into this
matter and take the necessary steps to ensure that a constructive, fair, and
professional learning environment is maintained. Our intention is not to disrespect
any faculty member but to raise our collective concerns in the interest of academic
integrity and student welfare.
We remain available for any further clarification or discussion on the matter and
trust that you will take this issue under serious consideration.

Sincerely,
BTECH COMPUTER SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING
