Inventor
Charles Babbage, (born December 26, 1791, London,
England—died October 18, 1871, London) was an English
mathematician and inventor who is credited with having
conceived the first automatic digital computer.
Invented
The first computer was invented by Charles Babbage
(1822) but was not built until 1991! Alan Turing invented
computer science.
Name of Inventions
Charles Babbage is known for designing
two mechanical machines: the Difference
Engine and the Analytical Engine. The
Difference Engine was designed to
calculate and print mathematical tables,
while the Analytical Engine was a general-
purpose, programmable computing
device considered to be the first
mechanical computer design. Although
Babbage never completed construction of
these machines during his lifetime, his
designs are considered pioneering in the
field of computing.
Where is it invented?
His work designing and partially
building the first computer occurred
in and around the London, England
area
Purpose
English mathematician and inventor Charles Babbage
is credited with having conceived the first automatic
digital computer. During the mid-1830s Babbage
developed plans for the Analytical Engine. Although it
was never completed, the Analytical Engine would
have had most of the basic elements of the present-
day computer.
