MACHINE DESIGN LAB Report1

The document outlines a lab project for designing a bracket using Solidworks, detailing the types of brackets and their applications. It provides a step-by-step procedure for creating the design, including sketching, extruding, and applying fillets. The conclusion confirms the successful modeling of the bracket to the required dimensions.

MACHINE DESIGN LAB

(ME-316)
AIM:- To design the given bracket with orthographic projections
INTRODUCTION: A bracket is a mechanical component used to support, mount, or
connect different parts in a structure or assembly. Typically made from metal, plastic, or
composite materials, brackets come in various shapes and sizes depending on their
application. They provide stability, distribute loads, and enhance structural integrity.
Common types include L-brackets, U-brackets, and Z-brackets, each designed for specific
mounting or reinforcement tasks. Brackets are widely used in industries such as construction,
automotive, aerospace, and machinery, playing a crucial role in fastening and support
systems.

Brackets come in different configurations, including:

• L-brackets – Used for right-angle connections and mounting applications.

• U-brackets – Designed to hold cylindrical or round components securely.
• Z-brackets – Provide offset mounting when parts need to be spaced apart.
• Gusset brackets – Reinforce joints by distributing loads over a larger area
• These components are widely used in construction, automotive, aerospace,
machinery, and electronics. They can be bolted, welded, or fastened with adhesives,
depending on the design and load requirements. Advanced brackets may also feature
adjustable slots, vibration damping, or corrosion-resistant coatings for
specialized applications.

SOFTWARE USED:- The CAD software that I used for designing the bracket is
Solidworks 2023 version. The Solidworks is a mechanical design automation
application that let designers create ,modify and innovate designs on basis of
imagination and creativity.
TOOLS USED:-

PROCEDURE:

1. Open Solidworks .
2. Go to New and select Part to open the solidworks interface.
3. Select plane and draw the required sketch

4. Draw a rectangle of given dimensions

5. Draw dimensions and trim it using Trim Entities tool as shown in fig.
6. Extrude it using Extruded Boss/Base tool.

7. Draw the required circles as per the given dimensions.

8. Draw the required lines of given dimensions as shown in figure.

9. Extrude it as shown in figure.

10. Using Extrude cut tool, cut the circular parts and draw concentric circles of
required dimensions as shown in figure
11. Extrude the circle by using Extruded Boss/Base tool and Extrude cut tool for
making hole at the two circles.
12. Apply fillets of 2.5mm to the final figure obtained at the selected edges and
here we have the final bracket design.

CONCLUSION: Our model is finally prepared of required dimensions.

OBJECTIVE:- To design the given part using solidworks.

ORTHOGRAPHIC PROJECTIONS:
TOOLS USED:

PROCEDURE:

1. Select the Front plane and draw the sketch of a rectangle of

given dimensions.
2. Draw the sketch of circle of dimension 25mm and concentric
circles of 75 and 50mm as shown in picture. Mark dimensions
as per needed.

3. Draw radius of curvatures of 25 mm and 64 mm as shown in

picture.
4. Extrude the selected part by using Extrude Boss/Base tool by
16 mm.
5. Extrude the remaining portion of the sketch by 63 mm and get
the required figure.

6. Create hole of diameter of 25 mm at the required location as

shown in figure.
7. After applying fillet of 25 mm and hole the circle by using Extrude cut tool , here we
have the final figure.

8. Our final bracket design is obtained of required dimensions.

CONCLUSION: We finally modelled the bracket design using

solidworks by using different tools.
