MGT 112 Fundamentals of Organizational Behavior

BBA, 2nd Semester

Course Description:

This course offers a comprehensive overview of organizational behavior. It covers the concept of
how individuals, groups, organizational structure act within the organizations. It explores key
concepts, theories, and practical applications to help students understand, predict, control,
manage and maintain behavior in professional settings. The course also aims to develop students’
abilities to manage human resource and organization effectively.

Course Contents:

Unit I: Introduction to Organizational Behavior (8 Hours)


Definition and importance of OB; Roles and skills for levels of managers; Historical background
of OB; Disciplines contributing to OB

Unit II: Individual Behavior (12 Hours)


Personality and Values; Myers-Briggs type indicator (MBTI); Big Five personality traits;
Values: Nepalese values, linking personality and values to the workplace (person-job fit, person-
organization fit); Perception and attribution theory; Attitude and job Satisfaction: Concept,
components, and behavior of satisfied employees at the workplace.

Unit III: Group Behavior (10 Hours)


Groups and Work Teams: Stages of group formation and development, Differences between
group and team, Roles of leadership in team; Communication, Concept and process of
communication, Types of communication, Barriers and techniques to manage effective
communication, Roles of communication and conflict resolutions strategies for team function.

Unit IV: Organizational Culture and Technology (8 Hours)


Organizational Climate and Culture: Creating and sustaining culture, Creating positive and
ethical cultures, Importance of organizational culture, Consequences of unethical culture; Issues
of technology in organizational culture

Unit V: Organizational Conflict, Change and Stress (10 Hours)


Approaches to conflict management; Resolving conflict through negotiation; Dynamics of
intergroup conflict; Change management: Resistance to change, Techniques to overcome
resistance to change; Acceptance to change; Stress Management: Reasons and approaches to
stress management
