Statement of Purpose
I am Ankit Poudel, a self-motivated and ambitious person from Pang,
Kushma-15, Parbat, Nepal. Date of birth is 14th April 2001 and passport
number Nepalese PA3574398. I have had a strong passion for the part that
data and technology play in influencing contemporary society for a long time.
My passion to learn along with my strong computer science foundation has
inspired me to pursue admission to the University of Hull's MSc Data
Science. I believe that obtaining this degree will allow me to gain the
advanced skills and knowledge required to excel in today's data-centric world
and make meaningful contributions to Nepal's technology industry and the
global world.
Academic Background
I have been attempting, in my life of study so far, to gain a proper background
in technology and science. I began learning at The Gandaki Boarding School
in Lamachaur, Bansbari, Kathmandu, wherein I worked optimally and
received my 10th grade with a GPA of 3.60 in the year 2017. My higher
secondary study of Science continued in Shishnu Niketan Secondary English
School in Pokhara with a GPA of 3.10 in the year 2019.
With a growing interest in technology, I graduated with a Bachelor of
Computer Application (BCA) from LA Grandee International College, which
is an affiliated college of Pokhara University. While doing my bachelor's, I
got exposed to a wide range of subjects such as programming, database
management, data structures, networking, web technologies, and software
development. I had a good academic record throughout and graduated in 2024
with a CGPA of 3.85. During my bachelor's, I loved working with data the
most — collecting it, analyzing it, and trying to interpret it. I worked on a lot
of projects where I applied data analysis methods, and through those, my
passion for data science actually grew. Today, I would like to focus more on
this new area by going for postgraduate studies.
Reasons for Choosing the United Kingdom
The United Kingdom has always been famous for its first-rate education
system, world-class research facilities, and focus on academic excellence. The
quality of education, coupled with the opportunity to study and interact with
people from various cultural and academic backgrounds, makes the UK the
ideal destination to study further. Another attraction is the work-based
practice provided by British universities, focusing on both theoretical studies
and application in real-life situations. The availability of the Graduate Route
in the UK, where international students can work upon successful completion
of studies, also adds to its popularity. Gaining experience of work abroad,
although even for a short period, would be most beneficial to me for
professional as well as personal growth. Besides, studying in the UK will
allow me to be directly exposed to new ideas, technologies, and cultures, and
it will be a key to developing a global perspective that is vital to be successful
today's globalized world.
Why University of Hull
After thoughtful analysis and research, I found that the University of Hull
offers an encouraging study environment which best aligns with my career
objectives. The MSc Data Science program offered by Hull is properly
organized, covering significant subjects such as data mining, statistics and
machine learning, big data analytics, statistical modeling, and artificial
intelligence. The course is highly practical in nature, with a scope to work
with actual datasets, industry-related projects, and hands-on training, which I
highly value.
I am particularly interested in modules like "Machine Learning and AI" and
"Big Data Analytics and Technologies," which are exactly aligned with my
interests and professional goals. Additionally, Hull's focus on developing
technical skills as well as critical thinking skills will allow me to tackle tough
problems in the area of data science.
The state-of-the-art facilities of the University of Hull, intellectually

suitable institution for me to further my postgraduate education. The city's
rich heritage, vibrant student society, and affordable living costs additionally
underpin my decision. I am certain that at Hull, I will enhance my intellectual

Career Aspirations
After completing my MSc Data Science, I intend to return to Nepal and
contribute to the emerging technology and data analytics sector in the nation.
Nepal is experiencing rapid digitalization, and industries such as finance,
health, education, and tourism are increasingly considering using data for
making decisions. The country still lacks skilled data science professionals.
First, I would like to work with leading IT and analytics firms such as
CloudFactory, Deerwalk Services, or Fusemachines Nepal to gain hands-on
experience. I would like to work on real projects to deploy machine learning
models, big data techniques, and statistical modeling to solve real-world
issues.
In the long run, my goal is to have a data consultancy firm of my own that
will help companies in Nepal unlock the potential of data. I would like to
think that by making it possible for organizations to make data-driven
decisions, I would be helping them grow and prosper. By so doing, I hope that
I will be contributing to the wider digital transformation of Nepal. The skills
and knowledge I gain from the University of Hull will be vital to achieving
these career goals. I am particularly keen to come back with the latest
research and best practices in data science and apply them in the context of
Nepal's emerging tech landscape.

In conclusion, I am genuinely keen on the possibility of pursuing MSc Data
Science at the University of Hull. I have faith that the course's well-balanced
syllabus, experiential style of learning, and supportive society will provide me
with the adequate ground to build up my competence and capability. Based on
