(a) Define Sensitivity of an instrument.
(b) What is Accuracy and Precision illustrate with example.
(c) What is True Value of an instrument ?
(d) Explain Dynamic Characteristics of any instrument.
(e) What is Seebeck effect ?
(f) What is Beer’s Law ?
(g) Name any four equipments used in flow measurement.
(h) Write down any four instruments used for composition measurement .
(i) Write down the advantages of Strip Chart Recorder over Circular Chart Recorder.
(j) Write down name of components used in Gas Chromatograph.

2. (a) Discuss the principle, construction and operation of Thermocouple. (5)


(b) Explain briefly methods of measurement of moisture in Lumber. (5)

3. (a) Discuss the principle , construction and operation of Oxygen Analysis Cell . (5)
(b) Discuss the principle, construction and operation of Refractometer. (5)

4. (a) Describe briefly about Hydrometer along with a neat labelled diagram. (5)
(b)With a neat labelled diagram explain briefly about Orificemeter. (5)
5. (a) One Radiation Pyrometer is used to measure a furnace refractory wall
temperature. The fumes and smoke along the path absorb 8 % of radiant heat
energy.If the pyrometer reads temperature 1100֯ C. What is the actual
temperature of the wall ? (Given : Emmisivity of the wall = 0.83) (5)
(b) A mercury thermometer is made from an invar tube ,0.050 m. Inside diameter .It
Is evacuated and filled with mercury to a height of 5.0 m. At 20֯ C. Using simple
law of liquid expansion ,find the height of the column when the thermometer is
completely immersed in a liquid of temperature 316 ֯C. (5)
6. (a) What are the differences between Head flow meter and Area flow meters? (5)
(b) Explain the measurement of absolute pressure using the Mcleod Gauge and their
useful range. (5)
7. (a) Explain briefly about the automatic control system used for Single Effect
Evaporator. (5)
(b) Explain briefly about the Circular Chart Recorder . (5)

8. Write short notes on any two. (5×2)
