1. Search the internet for two graphics cards, a low-end and a high-end, and
complete the table below. You can find the information on a manufacturer
website (AMD, NVIDIA,…) or in an online shop such as
www.pccomponentes.com.

Graphics card feature Low-End High-End

Model NVIDIA GeForce GT 1030 NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090
Manufacturer NVIDIA NVIDIA
Price 104 € 1.779 €
Number of cores 384 CUDA cores 16384 CUDA cores
Type of cores CUDA CUDA, Tensor, RT
GPU base frequency 1265 MHz 2235 MHz
GPU maximum frequency 1518MHz 2520 MHz
Maximum resolution 7680x4320 (8K) 7680x4320 (8K)
Memory capacity and type 2GB GDDR5 24GB GDDR6X
Motherboard interface PCIe 3.0 x4 PCIe 4.0 x16
Power consumption 30W 450W
Recommended power supply 300W 850W
Power connector for the GPU None required 16 pins

3. Search the Internet for a sound card and indicate its main features. Add a
real image of the card showing the ports and label each one.
USOKEI PCIe 5.1 Sound Card - Key Features
Unit 4 – Internal components II. Expansion Cards, case, power supply
Fundamentals of Hardware

Audio Channels: 5.1 surround sound.

Chipset: CMI8738, supports AC'97 2.3.
Interface: PCI Express x1.
Audio Quality: 24-bit/48 kHz sampling rate.
Outputs: Front, Rear, Center/Subwoofer (5.1 setup).
Inputs: Line-In, Mic-In.
Compatibility: Windows 7/Vista/XP (32/64-bit).

4. Search the Internet for a network card and a wi-fi card.

a) Indicate the url of the product and indicate the maximum data
transfer rate that offer. Which of the two is faster?

The TP-Link Archer TX20E Wi-Fi card offers a maximum combined
transfer rate of 1.8 Gbps, higher than the 1 Gbps of the UGREEN Ethernet
card, but real speeds may vary due to network conditions and router
distance.
b) What interfaces do they use with the motherboard?
Both cards use the PCI Express interface to connect to the motherboard.
5. Imagine that you want to assembly a computer and you want to use the
high-end graphic card chosen in the exercise 1. Access to an online shop
for PC components such as www.pccomponentes.com and chose a
compatible motherboard, processor, case and power supply. You must
take into account:

 Motherboard, case and power supply must be compatible (form

factor).
 CPU must be compatible with the motherboard.
 Motherboard must have a suitable slot for a graphics card and
enough space if it occupies two slots.
 Case must have enough suitable slots for the graphics card.
 The power supply must have enough power for the graphic card
and CPU. To know

 the power that needs the computer you can add the power that
needs all the components. A first approximation for this exercise
can be adding the TDP of the CPU
 and the power that needs the graphic card. But you can use a
power calculator such as https://outervision.com/power-supply-
calculator.
 If the graphics card needs extra power, the power supply must offer
power connectors for the graphics card.
 Taking into account the selected components. Approximately, what
power does your system need? Why?
The system requires approximately 675W of power, calculated as 450W for
the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090, 125W for the Intel Core i9-13900K
processor (TDP), and an estimated 100W for the motherboard, RAM, SSD,
and peripherals. To ensure stability and accommodate peak loads or
future upgrades, a 1000W power supply is recommended, providing
sufficient headroom for optimal performance and reliability.
For the selected components complete the following data:
Graphic card:
 Model: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090
 Url: NVIDIA RTX 4090
 Additional power connectors: 16-pin connector
 Recommend power supply: 850W
 Power consumption: 450W
 Form factor: Triple-slot
Motherboard:
 Model: ASUS ROG Strix Z790-E Gaming WiFi
 Url: ASUS ROG Strix Z790-E
 Form factor: ATX
 Compatible CPUs: Intel Core 13th and 12th Gen
 Expansion slots: 1 x PCIe 5.0 x16, 1 x PCIe 4.0 x16, 1 x PCIe 3.0 x1
