GAZING ASHWATHI ANAND A, KIRUTHIKA,

Stargazing has always been my strong forte when it comes to keeping

boredom at bay. This made me discover a fascinating thing, “The Orion
constellation”, which is among the most dramatic and identifiable
patterns in the night sky, has fascinated people for thousands of years
with its bright stars and a robust mythology. Named after a legendary
figure in Greek myth, Orion is commonly imagined as a powerful warrior.
Its brightest features are the red supergiant Betelgeuse, symbolizing
Orion's shoulder, and the blue supergiant Rigel, indicating his foot. At
the heart of the constellation is Orion's Belt, a group of three stars—
Alnitak, Alnilam, and Mintaka—that are aligned in a straight, easily
recognizable line. Not only is this constellation a sight to behold, but it is
also the home of such celestial treasures as the Orion Nebula, a stellar
nursery where new stars form, and the Horsehead Nebula, whose shape is
unmistakable. Barnard's Loop, a giant arc of ionized gas, also contributes
to its beauty. The importance of Orion transcends cultures, including the
ancient Egyptians who associated it with their god Osiris and oriented the
Great Pyramids with its stars, to indigenous people who interpreted it as a
symbol of strength and guidance. From nearly every region of the globe,
Orion is visible, and located along the celestial equator, its beautiful Belt
makes it a simple target to spot in the winter sky for the northern
hemisphere or the summer sky for the southern hemisphere. A gateway to
the universe, Orion calls upon stargazers and dreamers to seek out its
splendor, uncover its secrets, and become part of the legends it has
influenced through time and space.

One hot day, an ant was searching for some water. After walking around
for some time, she came to a spring. To reach the spring, she had to
climb up a blade of grass. While making her way up, she slipped and fell
into the water.
She could have drowned if a dove up a nearby tree had not seen her.
Seeing that the ant was in trouble, the dove quickly plucked o a leaf and
dropped it into the water near the struggling ant. The ant moved to-
wards the leaf and climbed up there. Soon it carried her safely to dry
ground. Just at that time, a hunter nearby was throwing out his net
towards the dove, hoping to trap it.
Guessing what he was about to do, the ant quickly bit him on the heel.
Feeling the pain, the hunter dropped his net. The dove was quick to fly
away to safety.

LIFE
A POEM IS ALWAYS SOMETHING TO CHERISH AND HER IS ONE ABOUT THE LIVES WE LIVE

The sky, ever-changing, has stories to share,

A cluster of stars, or silence, laid bare.
But do we gaze with open eyes, aware?

The sea, a language with waves that crash,

Or a calm so deep, it whispers a hush.
But do we pause to hear its call, its brush?

The world, a teacher, with lessons to sow,

Yet we rush past, too eager to know.
Do we stop to learn, or simply to grow?

We dwell in the spheres of our own thought,

Forgetting the truths that nature has sought.
Doing what others have framed and taught.

Little we see that our paths are not caught.

The urge to belong, it gnaws and it stings,
To mirror another, it silently clings.
But perhaps all it takes is a simple awakening—
To see life’s truth, beyond the framing.

MASTERING INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
THE KEY TO
PERSONAL AND
PROFESSIONAL
GROWTH VISHAKHAN K

IN TODAY’S FAST-PACED AND INTERCONNECTED WORLD, INTERPERSONAL

SKILLS HAVE BECOME MORE CRUCIAL THAN EVER. WHETHER YOU’RE
NAVIGATING RELATIONSHIPS IN THE WORKPLACE, INTERACTING WITH
FAMILY, OR CONNECTING WITH FRIENDS, THE ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE
EFFECTIVELY AND FOSTER MEANINGFUL RELATIONSHIPS CAN DEFINE YOUR
SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS. BUT WHAT EXACTLY ARE INTERPERSONAL
SKILLS, AND HOW CAN ONE MASTER THEM?
Understanding Interpersonal Skills

Interpersonal skills, often referred to as “people skills,”

encompass the abilities required to interact and communicate
with others effectively. These skills include verbal and non-
verbal communication, empathy, teamwork, adaptability, and
conflict resolution. They are not just innate traits but are
capabilities that can be developed with time and practice.
At their core, interpersonal skills are about understanding others
and making connections. They go beyond mere conversations
and extend into the realms of trust-building, respect, and
collaboration. In professional settings, interpersonal skills are
often the differentiating factor between a good employee and an
exceptional one.
The Importance of Interpersonal Skills
In any social or professional setting, interpersonal skills pave the
way for smoother interactions. Imagine a workplace where team
members fail to communicate effectively. The result would be
chaos, misunderstandings, and inefficiency. On the contrary,
teams with strong interpersonal dynamics tend to exhibit higher
productivity, morale, and creativity.
Beyond the workplace, interpersonal skills play a significant role
in our personal lives. They help us build stronger relationships,
resolve conflicts amicably, and navigate the complexities of
human
15 emotions.
13
Key Interpersonal Skills to Cultivate

1. Active Listening
Listening is more than just hearing. Active listening involves giving
undivided attention to the speaker, understanding their perspective, and
responding thoughtfully. It fosters mutual respect and helps avoid
misunderstandings.

2. Empathy
Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another.
By putting yourself in someone else’s shoes, you can connect with them
on a deeper level and respond with compassion.

3. Effective Communication
Clear and concise communication, both verbal and non-verbal, ensures
that your ideas and emotions are understood. Pay attention to tone, body
language, and clarity in your speech.

4. Teamwork
Collaboration and cooperation are essential in achieving common goals.
Being a team player involves sharing responsibilities, valuing others’
contributions, and working towards collective success.

5. Adaptability
Life is unpredictable, and situations often demand flexibility. Being open
to change and adapting to different personalities and circumstances
showcases emotional intelligence and maturity.

6. Conflict Resolution
Disagreements are inevitable, but how we handle them matters. Address
conflicts calmly, focus on solutions rather than blame, and strive for win-
win outcomes.

The Interpersonal Edge

In a world increasingly driven by automation and artificial intelligence,

interpersonal skills remain uniquely human. They are the bridge between
individuals, enabling meaningful connections that technology cannot
replicate. Mastering interpersonal skills is not an overnight journey. It
requires patience, practice, and perseverance. But the rewards—stronger
relationships, career success, and personal fulfillment—are well worth
the effort. So, the next time you interact with someone, pause and reflect
on your approach. Are you listening actively? Are you empathetic? Are
you communicating effectively? The more mindful you are, the more
skilled you’ll become in the art of human connection and remember, the
journey to mastering interpersonal skills begins with a single step—yours.

Art exists in everything. Art exists in everything around us, from the natural world
to human-made creations. It’s in the colors of a sunset, the patterns in leaves, and
the architecture of buildings. Everyday objects, like a well-designed chair or a
beautifully crafted book cover, carry elements of art through their form and
function. Even the way we move and interact with each other can be a form of
artistic expression, from the gestures we make to the way we communicate. Art is
not confined to galleries; it’s woven into the fabric of life, shaping the way we see
and experience the world.

Most maps of the world are wrong. On most maps,
the Mercator projection – first developed in 1569 –
is still used. This method is wildly inaccurate and
makes Alaska appear as large as Brazil and
Greenland 14 times larger than it actually is. For a
map to be completely accurate, it would need to be
life-size and round, not flat.
