SAP QM - Dynamic Modification Rule

The Dynamic Modification Rule (DMR) allows for the dynamic adjustment of inspection stages based on recorded inspection results, aiming to reduce inspection costs. DMR can be stored at various levels, including inspection plans and material master records, and it updates the quality level based on acceptance or rejection of inspection lots. The document outlines the process for creating DMR, including steps for setting up material master records, inspection plans, and handling goods receipts and usage decisions.

Dynamic Modification Rule (DMR)

In simple words DMR means when you dynamically want to change the stages of the inspection that means you want to
reduce the inspection or skip the lots or tighten the inspection. DMR mainly used for reducing the cost of inspection.

DMR contains the conditions for the inspection stage change. Inspection stage changes occur on the basis of the
inspection results that are recorded for inspection lots and inspection characteristics (that is, on the basis of their
acceptance or rejection).

You can store DMR rule at one of following place:

1) Inspection plan - Header level

2) Inspection plan - Characteristic level
3) Material Master - Inspection type level

With reference to DMR condition system update the quality level, which always reflects the current status.

For dynamic modification at lot creation, the quality level is updated when an inspection lot is created. The system
assumes that the forthcoming inspection will lead to an acceptance of the inspection lot or characteristic.
An inspection lot, which is created immediately after the quality level is updated, uses the information in the updated
quality level without a usage decision having been made.

If dynamic modification is carried out at lot creation and the inspection lot is subsequently rejected, the system updates
the quality level again when the usage decision is made. The new inspection stage is used by the system to calculate the
sample sizes for the next inspection lot. Changing the quality level does not affect inspection lots that were created in the
meantime.

That is why QM consultant suggests at UD in common business process.

Example:

Suppose you have Raw Material "DMR-01-243"

You do Inspection of Goods once you received from vendor on below criteria.
1. If Inspection Lot Valuation is Accepted (OK), then you don't inspect material for next two Inspection lot. i.e you SKIP
Inspection for next 2 Inspection Lot
2. If Inspection Lot Valuation is Rejected (Not OK), you do tight Inspection

Process Flow

Create Dynamic Modification Rule

Create Material Master Record

Assign DMR

Create Inspection Plan

Create Purchase Order

Goods Receipt of Purchase Order

Result Recording

Usage Decision

Step I - Create Dynamic Modification Rule

Go to T-code QDR1

Insert desired code for DMR "D01"& then click on

Put Radio button on "For usage decision" & then click on Next screen

Use of For Usage Decision - If you set this indicator, the system updates the quality level after the usage decision has
been made for the inspection lot.

First select all stage with Skip and then select row of Stage 1 & then click on

This indicate that suppose you valuate 2 inspection lot as Accepted (OK) then
third (next) recieved Inspection lot will be SKIP as defined in stage 2 later

Suppose you Valuate 1 inspection as Rejected (NOT OK), then next Inspection
lot will create with Stage 1 means normal Inspection lot

Note: In simple word, if Inspection lot Accepted then next lot will skip (means
there is no need to do RR. Inspection lot will post to unrestricted use.

Now click on

Notice this stage 1

updated

Select row of Stage 2 & then click on

Here you maintain no. of SKIP of Inspection Lot.

If Inspection lot Rejected quality level update as Stage 1.

Now click on

Select row of Stage 3 & then click on

Now click on

And then SAVE Dynamic Modification Rule

Step II - Create Material Master Record

Go to T-code MM01

Maintain Material master with required selected views. I have shown here Quality Management view with Inspection Type
01 activate & default value.

You can assign DMR at

Material level also

Step III - Create Inspection Plan & assign DMR at header

Go to T-code QP01

Maintain Dynamic modification level at Lot level & then assign DMR D01

Rest Inspection Plan maintain as per your requirement & then save Inspection plan.

Step IV - Create Purchase order & post Goods Receipt.

Go to T-code ME21n

Now Go to T-code MIGO for Goods Receipt

Step V - Result Record & Usage Decision

Go to T-code QA32

Do Result Recording as per your requirement. Here I am showing only UD.

Valuate Inspection lot as Accepted (OK) & then save after Inspection lot stock posting.

Similarly follow step IV to step V to create inspection lot & UD and Valuate Inspection lot as Accepted (OK).

You can check Quality level of Inspection lot 10000000586

Go to T-code QDL3

Insert Plant code & Material and then click on

See here Next stage is 2, this means status

of next inspection lot will be SKIP as per
Stage 2 defined in Dynamic Modification
Rule

Then again follow step IV to step V to create next inspection lot Now you will found status of Inspection Lot as SKIP.

Notice that status of third lot is SKIP as per Dynamic Modification Rule

Check now Stock overview in MMBE for batch 000000619. You will found batch lies in Unrestricted use.

Now do UD for Inspection Lot 10000000587

As I have valuated Inspection lot # 10000000587 as Accepted (OK), Stage of next inspection lot will be Stage 3.

You can check quality level for Inspection lot # 10000000587 same as above in T-code QDL3

Dynamic Modification Rule Page 13

Dynamic Modification Rule Created by: Rajesh Sutar

Similarly follow step IV to step V to create inspection lot & UD and Valuate Inspection lot as Rejected (NOT OK).
Then system assign stage 1 as defined for stage 3 in Dynamic Modification Rule.

Now do RR & UD

Valuated as Rejected (NOT OK)

Dynamic Modification Rule Page 14

Now check Quality level for Inspection Lot # 10000000588 in T-code QDL3

Go to QDL3

That means inspection of next Inspection Lot will conduct as per stage 1

Summary - Depending upon Valuation of Inspection Lot whether Accepted (OK) or Rejected (NOT OK) system propose
you whether to SKIP inspection or Tighten Inspection or Normal Inspection according to Dynamic Modification
Rule
