NIMCET vs.

MHT MCA CET Syllabus and Key


Differences/Commonalities
I. NIMCET Syllabus and Expected Weightage:

(A) Mathematics (Highest Weightage)

• Set Theory: Concepts of sets, union, intersection, cardinality, elementary counting,


permutations, and combinations.

• Probability and Statistics: Basic concepts of probability theory, averages, dependent


and independent events, frequency distributions, measures1 of central tendencies
and dispersions.

• Algebra: Fundamental operations,2 expansions, factorization, simultaneous


linear/quadratic equations, indices, logarithms, arithmetic, geometric, and harmonic
progressions, determinants, and3 matrices.

• Coordinate Geometry: Rectangular Cartesian coordinates, distance formula,4


equation of a line, intersection of lines, pair of straight lines, equations of a circle,
parabola, ellipse, and hyperbola.

• Calculus: Limits,5 continuity, differentiation, tangents and normals, maxima and


minima, integration (by parts, substitution, partial fraction), definite integrals, and
applications to areas.

• Vectors: Position vector, addition and subtraction, scalar and vector products,
applications in geometry and mechanics.

• Trigonometry: Simple identities, trigonometric equations, properties of triangles,


solution of triangles, heights and6 distances, general solutions.7

(B) Analytical Ability and Logical Reasoning (High Weightage)

• Analogies, coding-decoding, puzzles, matrix-based questions, Venn diagrams,


direction and distance, blood relations, order and ranking, number series, verbal and
non-verbal reasoning.

(C) Computer Awareness (Medium Weightage)

• Computer Basics: Organization of a computer, CPU, instruction structure,


input/output devices, computer memory, and backup devices.

• Data Representation: Representation of characters, integers, and fractions, binary


and hexadecimal8 systems, binary arithmetic, signed and two's complement
arithmetic, floating-point representation, Boolean algebra, truth tables, Venn
diagrams.
(D) General English (Low Weightage)

• Comprehension, vocabulary, basic English grammar (usage of verbs, prepositions,


articles), word power, synonyms, antonyms, meaning of words and phrases, technical
writing.

II. MHT MCA CET Syllabus and Expected Weightage:

(A) Mathematics & Statistics (High Weightage)

• Algebra: Fundamental operations, expansions, factorization, quadratic equations,


indices, logarithms, arithmetic, geometric, and harmonic progressions, binomial
theorem, permutations, and combinations.

• Coordinate Geometry: Rectangular Cartesian coordinates, equations of a line,9


midpoint, intersections, equations of a circle, distance formula, pair of straight lines,
parabola, ellipse, and hyperbola, simple geometric transformations.10

• Differential Equations: First-order differential equations and their solutions, linear


differential equations with constant coefficients, homogeneous linear differential
equations.

• Trigonometry: Simple identities, trigonometric equations, properties of triangles,


solution of triangles, height and distance,11 inverse functions.

• Probability and Statistics: Basic concepts of probability,12 averages, dependent and


independent events, frequency distributions, measures of dispersion, skewness and
kurtosis, random variables and distributions (Binomial, Poisson, Normal), curve
fitting, and the principle of least squares.

• Arithmetic: Ratios and proportions, time-work problems, distance-speed problems,


percentages, etc.

• Basic Set Theory and Functions: Sets, relations, and mappings.

• Mensuration: Areas (triangles, quadrilaterals, circles), volumes and surface areas


(cubes, spheres, cylinders, cones).

(B) Logical / Abstract Reasoning (High Weightage)

• Questions to measure quick and logical thinking, problem-solving capabilities based


on given passages and situations.

(C) English Comprehension and Verbal Ability (Medium Weightage)

• Basic English grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, summary writing, synonyms,


antonyms, sentence correction, word and phrases, jumbled paragraphs.

(D) Computer Concepts (Medium Weightage)


• Computer Basics: Organization of a computer, CPU, instruction structure,
input/output devices, computer memory, memory organization, backup devices.

• Data Representation: Representation of characters, integers, and fractions, binary


and hexadecimal13 systems, binary arithmetic, signed and two's complement
arithmetic, floating-point representation, Boolean algebra, truth tables, Venn
diagrams.

• Computer Architecture: Basics of digital logic, block structure of computers,


communication between processor and I/O devices, interrupts.

• Computer Language: Fundamentals of data & file structures,14 high-level languages,


computer programming in C, advanced programming concepts.

• Operating System Basics.
